Out hunting good 4hrs yesterday- lost both front shoes! Think I must have rode her on without them for quite a while before realising. Was on grass all day, then when hacking back to trailer only noticed her come up lame along the road. Assumed she had just swelled up after strenuous work etc. so ran both front legs under cold water when I got home then bandaged over night. Front legs were both quite hot from knee downwards, hinds fine. This morning she was lame in walk out of the stable, but slightly less heat in legs, slight swelling. Less lame than when we got back last night, so figured it was a pulled muscle somewhere, so turned her out to stretch it out.

Then she came in tonight hopping lame, difficulty walking, not very hot legs but obviously in pain. She's in on bute on a deep bed of shavings now.

Any recommendations? Vet out? I'm getting the farrier soon as poss. to get the shoes back on, I guess that could be part of the problem. Ahh! Poor pony!

Sorry not much use to you really as I have not got an answer, apart from getting the Vet, however I am amazed that you have been registered for nearly 5 years on HHO and this is only your second post

I would have thought that maybe it was just sore from losing her front shoes

I would get the farrier to put shoes back on and see if she is still lame once they are back on. If she is then get the vet.

I think it is concerning that there is heat and some swelling in the legs - doesnt sound like just related to losing shoes. Suggest you get a vet to scan in case there is ligament or tendon damage.

Loosing shoes can bring up lameness. Keep her on box rest for a week have her shoes put back on (I'll be very impressed if you found the lost ones...unless you're Scottish). Bute is a good idea if it continues after a week then get the vet and your cheque book out....hope it all comes good

haha thats funny- someone actually did see one on a track and told me! not scottish i don't think.

she's had her shoes back on, and is looking better, now only a little lame, in walk.

tendon damage what i'm terrified of, but she appears to be in a lot less pain, and came in from a day in the field much better than she did on sunday.

thanks everyone!
