Hi I am off to do a Riding Club stressage test tomorrow evening and have really struggled to get the correct lead when striking off on the right rein (Sal favours the left lead) I have been trying hard to sit for 2 trot strides look around the bend and bring my left leg back to try and get the left hind engaged thus getting the right front leg however........Sal likes to start the canter before I have asked properly thus choosing the left leg lead aghhhhhhhhh. I know that this is probably my fault not hers as I have started to get so up tight about it I tend to lean forward to check which leg she has struck off on (sorry too much of a numpty rider to be able to tell !!) so any helpful hints very gratefully accepted. (Her back & teeth have been checked)

flexing her head and neck slightly to the outside might help. Horses often find it easier to step under themselves in this way.
Don't lean forwards; you need to keep your weight in the saddle so she can 'push' against it. I'm not sure this is technically correct, but RI (although I despise him at the moment
