Any hypermobile riders in here?

Me! But I've only just found out I am hypermobile, which is manifesting as other symptoms.

I don't *think* it affects my riding though :confused:
 
I suffer most in my hips when trying to achieve a classical dressage seat. Have been known to dislocate one in the process. I also struggle with my lower back and shoulders but that is not just the hyper mobility but poor confirmation in general ;)
 
I have the EDS hyper mobility and it really affects my knees, means that I no longer jump as it hurts too much. Also it can make me tired so I only do one test at a comp. other than that I don't find it bothers my riding too much! There was another thread on here a while ago about it?
 
Have been diagnosed as hypermobile in every joint and its not to bad. I have always been this way but it was only in the last 10 years I was diagnosed. Riding for longer than 2hrs a day causes hips to dislocate but have learned to put them back in really quickly, I have to take my feet out the stirups every 10 mins to flex ankles so riding without them for hacking or flat schooling at home is easier and my lower back gives up if I do to much jumping but after finding a fab phsio at Rugby (which I also am able to play) she has shown me how to put that back into position.
 
Just found the other thread - didn't realise there were so many people that suffer from it!

I was diagnosed a few months ago after finally being referred to a physio. I struggle with my shoulders and ankles mainly which pop out of place while riding, and attempting to ride in short boots and chaps tonight really highlighted how unsupported my ankles have become... I felt like a beginner again :(

Anyone have success in using supports or the like?
 
me ! it's all to do with past eating disorders, and mostly affects my back, shoulders and ankles. My ankles kept going over, so the specialist "diagnosed" some very expensive insoles, and now I walk much more in alignment, and seem to be stronger with stirrups.

I prefer to ride treeless/bareback, probably because my hips aren't restricted, which then pinches my back.
 
Doesn't usually affect me I find the core stability needed when riding regularly helps most of the time although if I have existing back/shoulder pain it doesn't help. One thing I learnt tother day is always have your stirrups the same lengths I was riding with one slightly to sort and my ankle was collapsing under me on that side and it's never done that before :rolleyes:
 
Yes, used to cause real problems with my knees and ankles and knees popping out but as I have got older its got better

Edit to add - I'm HMS (EDS hypermobility type 3) as well. I suffer from fatigue quite often. I don't ride hardly due to finances. The last time I rode, I was fine until we did work without stirrups and then took stirrups back, after this my legs had zero strength in them and I couldn't do a thing
 
I am unofficially -don't have any dislocating joints (bar my thumb) and a few oddly placed joints post fracture, but a Physio has told me I'm hyper mobile in every joint. I have more than your average movement in my ankle which means I have literally no stability in them at all and without splints (metal strips), the soles of my feet rest against my horses belly. I find my knees get stiff in the cold when riding due to the maintained flexed position and my sacroiliac joint is my most common painful site as it takes all the added pressure from my hyper mobile legs.

As I mentioned before, my thumb dislocates so that's more or less permanently splinted now, but if I use kinesiotape that is pretty good if I get it right. And I get a lot of neck and shoulder pain (but that's more than likely due to a previous thoracic spine fracture - again, unofficially diagnosed, but my spine doesn't stick out straight like everyone else's, it's on angle!)
