Hi all! I have a TBx filly who will be three on Christmas Day.
She was a surprise foal from a mare I rescued in poor condition, who unfortunately died when the foal was 12 weeks old. My cob mare proved to be an excellent foster mum and the filly is healthy and gorgeous.
Mum was almost certainly TB and 16hh, filly looks like a carbon copy of mum, slightly more quality (if you know what I mean!) and a little more substance. My vet seems to think there might be a bit of WB in there (not bad for a BOGOF, and she is jet black, not a spot of white!!)
We have no idea who the stallion was, and no way of finding out and I wondered if anyone had any ideas how big they think she may be at maturity.
OOPS! Forgot to say she is 15hh at present, bum high and knees and hocks still look a bit big for her legs!

I was told this 'trick' years ago...

Get some bailer twine and measure from her fetlock to her.. ah.. here's where I can't remember.. I think you measure from fetlock to wither then swing the string upright to get her adult wither height.

Did it for my filly when she was 6 months old and she's 9 now and it was pretty accurate.

She was out of a 14.3hh mare by a 16.3 stallion sand ended up 16hh but could've gone either way!

Thank you, I thought(hoped!!) about 16-16.2. Will try the baling twine thing and see what that throws up. Hope she doesn't go 17hh+! I am hoping to back her next spring. Xx

I would say realistically about 15.2HH if she is nearly 3 already. Good luck with her

Certainly, my TB youngsters dont do more than another inch or so after they hit 3yrs old.

If WB in her, that will delay growth though!

If she were mind I would be expecting her to finish between 15.2 and 15.3 hh. Next year she should start to fill out more and do less upward growth, and another 3 inches growth on a 3 year old is pretty good going. That's said, genetics is a old funny thing and it's almost impossible to really know.

One of my friend's has a 2 year old filly (born May 07) which is 16.1½ hh on her rump already. She's out of a 15 hh TB mare, by a 16.0 hh WB who normally throws smallish stock. She was expecting something chunkier around the 15.3 hh max. She's ended up with this giant, breedy looking sport's horse LOL!
