I had the vet out to my horse on Weds because he had a swelling on next to his tail & he was ever so slightly lame. So vet said he thought was a kick & damaged soft tissue. He said 2 weeks box rest & gave me some bute to give him. So last night I was brushing him & feeling his swelling then I noticed underneath it there is 2 lumps like small marble size & they were bit wet & sticky. Then this morning had another good feel & he has lumps inbetween his bum cheeks & down the backs of his legs. He is well in himself, he ate all his breakfast up & he is eating hay at the mo. Any ideas to what they could be? Sorry bit long, I did try to take pics but you couldnt see the lumps on the pic.

Yes, my horse has had a few of these. They are quite itchy at first and eventually go crusty but if you pick them off they go all weepy. I trim the hair away if possible and dry them up with wound powder then pick the dry bits off. They do seem to get in the most awkward places. No idea what they are though but suspect it might be something in the soil (I am on sand).

I did take some pics but it just looks like he's got wet spots on him. They didnt turn out very well.
I rang the vet & they said it could be an allergy & that if he's eating & drinking that its not worth them coming out till a weekday. I was worried with it being below the swelling next to his tail that he had an infection under skin or something & that it was breaking out. I always think the worst. Could it be an allergy to the bute?

Unlikely, if it is not across the entire body it is not usually a reaction to something ingested. Have you used any particular product in the area to wash with that could be causing this?

No not used anything different. I noticed now that he has got 2 lumps on the side of his belly aswell. Think Ill get the vet to come take a look tomorrow. He dont mind me touching them either. They seem quite itchy. You know when a horsefly bites you & leaves a hard thick sort of lump, well they sort of feel like that. Theres just the 2 that are weepy.
