Yesterday my horse had a swelling down the front of the left fore cannon. Not hot or lame, but cold hosed etc. This morning is was a bit bigger, but now is just staying the same size. It still doesn't have any heat in, and the horse is perfectly sound and seems unaware of the swelling. My main worry is that is is all the way down the common lateral extensor tendon (i think as the swelling stops at the pastern). It starts by the side of the knee, then runs down the front of the leg. It isn't fluid filled, it is pretty solid, almost feels like a thickening of the tendon. Here are some pics:

Any ideas??????

Maybe my eye sight's going, I can only see the swelling on the knee. Fly bite?

Its hard to say from the pictures but it looks like a shin is a bit bowed?? Has he being galloping around on the hard ground like a pillock?

This would have been other option.

My knee looks like that when I've been for a run lately. Maybe I should stop.

The swelling appears to make the leg looked bowed, but if its not usually like that then I'd guess he's taken some kind of bang, if he's not lame and there is not heat and the swelling doesn't get any bigger, then I'd just give him some time off for it to go down, keep cold hosing it, otherwise I'd get the vet.

Sometimes it can take months for a type of swelling to go down despite not showing any lameness, but if your any doubt, best thing would be to have it checked out.

Hope it nothing serious. :)
