I have a 5 and a half year old border collie. He is nice and active and has three walks a day. Recently he has been having problems with his hind legs/back area. He started by occasionally pulling himself along on his bottom which I thought was a sign of worms so wormed him. However, there are times when he will go to get up and his back end is a little lower than usual.
He also has trouble getting in and out of the car at times. However, other times he is fine. If he is looking stiff I say "walk" and he immediately looks sprightly and limber, so not sure if it's psycological.
When on a walk he chases his frisbee and chases his ball and shows no signs of stiffness or difficulty moving.
Could this be the onset of arthritis? Something more serious like bone issues? General stiffness at the beginning and end of the day?
Do border collies suffer from any breed specific issues?
I am going to take him to the vet on Tuesday but would appreciate any thoughts or ideas. Thanks.xx
