I feel like I've been banging on about this for years.
My poor daughter has had endless bad luck trying to find a loan pony, pony club camp is three weeks away, and we are desperate to find a pony to loan - or even just borrow for camp - and I have run out of ideas! I've advertised on the PC website, I 've phoned numerous ads (with results varying from the bizarre to the down right insane) - I've considered rescue centres, but they do seem to want a lot of money to 'lend' you a pony, and the process is so long winded, it wouldn't help us now before camp - we've asked around at pony club ... all to no avail!
Can anyone think of something I haven't done, which might help me work a miracle?

Poor you, it must be getting pretty desperate!

How about asking around at the local yards/tack stores, or does any of her friends have more than one pony that may be suitable for her to borrow?

Good luck!

I'm completely the opposite to you.

I have a lovely well behaved 13.2 5 year old who would love to go to camp.

I offered him to a pony less teenager who also was dieing to go to camp with all her friends.

The mother expected her to just ride the pony once or twice beforehand and then for me to deliver him to camp.

She already knew the pony was only in light work and not fit enough.

I asked for the child to ride the pony 2 or 3 times a week for a month or so beforehand, but the mother felt she couldn't take time out to deliver child to me. The child was also going on holiday for the 2 weeks prior to camp so they expected me to do all the prep, tack cleaning etc!

I did explain that I could pay someone to ride pony in the meantime but they didn't want to pay

A fit, clean pony delivered to them and lent for free! No input or help from them at all.

I wish you were nearer to me as this chap would have loved to go to camp, now camp is just 2 weeks away and he wouldn't be fit for it.

I suppose I'm just trying to say there are those of us who will lend a pony, it's just luck whether you find them.
Good luck in your search.

have you contacted your DC and also the DC's of all surrounding PC's? Is there a local riding school who would hire a pony for the week? Maybe RDA (our local RDA usually send 4 or 5 ponies to camp with their sharers)

Gosh, how frustrating.

We have contacted DC, but not much joy there. MIght try other local DCs, I suppose, it's now three weeks to go, so it's getting a bit desperate - she has been getting my fat lazy cob fit, and worst case will go with him, but he is dreadful (!) and not really Intermediate Camp material, though well intentioned!

hi, have you contacted heythrop. my friend was pony less but has been offered numerous horses and ponies from people in the heythrop- instructors etc.
i know how she must be feeling- its so so annoying, when i was 10 my pony had just died and i couldnt find a pony, i ended up with a nut job who was terrified of jumping (it worked out in the end lol) but keep looking there are ponies out there!

Riding schools might lend, though they may also charge a ridiculous fee for a week. Im surprised, at our PC there are a few people with 3 ponies to one child !! people like them really should lend one for a week. Maby if someone knows someone on holiday for the camp week and would therefore get free care of it for a week while they are away, its worth a try at the local livery yards.

Hi

I think my niece may have rang you about our 14hh mare?? was she not suitable?? PM if you want
smile.gif

Thank you!
Just having a look - a few want them to stay on same yard - as far as travelling is concerned, we have travelled so many miles, only to be met with unreasonable expectations, and just plain weirdness - we will travel, if the person is not expecting Ellen Whitaker and Laura Becholsteimer rolled into one!
My daughter is an average rider, and I'm not going to say otherwise to anyone! And our yard is nice, practical, on a farm. Is it five star? (or ten star, as someone requested?!) No, probably not! It's a yard, on a farm, there is always someone here, I can turn out as much or as little as required, there are other horses. I am qualified (BHSAI) and both my daughters are pony club regulars, who are fair to middling riders! I have a fabulous farrier, and (imho) the best horse vets in the country. This just does not seem to be enough for a lot of people!
Sorry, went off into a bit of a rantette there! Thank you again, PourToi, I will have a good look, Tedster, I have PMd you, I am having a hard time remembering who I have spoken to!!!!!!!

I Havent rec' a pm from you but the pony is Cruella Deville
her advert is on www.thehorseexchange.com look under PC ponies she is a fab pony min loan 3yrs as niece off to UNI good jumping pony wins or place unaffialted all the time she is fast but not nuts has brakes, but not for a begiiner or novice. she is also on horsemart under pony for loan

why are people so so fussy? we keep our horses on a farm, and its probably not 5*, but they are happy there and so why does it matter if they have huge, expensive stables or the normal stables the rest of the country has, and probably them themselves!
Good Luck! im sure you will find something, you just really need to look... i think your just going to have to go through every advert on horse mart, horse and hound, PC website, horse qeust etc. etc. and just ring them and set aside a few days where you go and try lots of ponies in one day!
good luck!

on horse qeust if you go to the loan page theres some nice ones:

Pretty 13hh chestnut gelding

Rosette machine show jumping up to 2'3"

Snaffle mouth always - Does all pony club activities including camp

Good hack and very safe for children to handle - Excellent box, traffic, catch, shoe, clip. No vices

Bought for my daughters (aged 9) to learn to jump on

We had him for four years and he has been out on loan for the last 3 ½

In the last month he has been on the winning mini show jumping team and came 6th at a mini ODE

He also hunted with us and was shown by his previous owners

He is 20 years old and has not really aged in the 7 years we have owned him - rather just honed his skills as a schoolmaster

He is now ready to give another child masses of pleasure and fun

He will be loaned with tack and full wardrobe

Approx 15.1hh Irish X 13yrs skewbald mare available for breeding this season, whilst recovering from an injury

A very talented horse with the sweetest nature and impeccable manners

She is a fantastic allrounder, with many wins in dressage, show jumping & cross country, scoring 67% at area dressage last year and 27 at area horse trials

She also went clear at Gatcome Park pony club show jumping with her previous owner and jumps 1.10m course with ease

The list goes on for this talented, scopy mare

She will be much missed so a 5* experienced home is required, preferably within a 75mile radius of Stroud in Gloucestershire, however, we may consider loaning further if the right home is found

Please ring for more details 01453 751497 (Glos)

or

13.2hh registered Welsh Section C mare 10 years

Sadly outgrown after 3 ½ great years in private home

We have mainly shown her as an M&M worker and in limited outings she has been highly successful with many wins and champs

She is a positive, cheerful, forward going pony that loves to jump - Although 10, she is relatively low mileage as she bred two foals as a 4 and 5 year old and started her real ridden career at 7

Having been in touch with previous owners we know she had a very successful in hand career, including standing restricted novice champion at Ponies UK, and has also been broken to drive

She hacks out safely alone and in company – my teenage daughter has led my 6 year old’s pony off her quite happily

Last season was severely interrupted because my daughter broke her wrist in May, but in her few shows she missed out on RIHS qualification by one point and was also placed in a massive HOYS worker

We genuinely feel the best is still to come but jockey is now 5’10 and still growing

She has been turned away during the winter but is now back in work and available to view at Vicky White’s yard in Somerset 10 mins from J23 M5

£5000 ono, all reasonable offers considered - may loan to competitive home- More photos and short video available

Call Julie on 01984 618675 or email Julie@gaukroger.me.uk

those are all off horse qeust so no links, they seem nice and could be good for your daughter- some are in your area. if you look on the horse qesut website there are images of all these ponies.

sorry for such a long post (im bored!)

Sorry - What height are you looking for?

My Mum has just taken one of our ponies away from his loan home - A local Riding School, he's had a year their and Mum felt that was long enough.

He is now Rider-less for until he is broken to drive in the Autumn.

Has PC'd and PPC. As we were all too big to ride him once broken he has been to loan homes ever since - All Pony Club homes - In fact I think they just passed him around!!

He is 13.2 very sweet but my not be enough of an advanced ride for your daughter......Waffling now - Sorry!!
