Hi, im thinking about selling my horse but dont know how much he is worth. Anyone please help me.

He is 16.3 dark bay gelding, his dad full TB but his mum irish warmblood type. He is 11 years old. He is a preety lad, has lightly compteted in the past but nothing major. Good to hack, school, jump etc. Lovely nature, easy to handle, good to clip, shoe, vet etc. Has been ridden by a novice.

Now for the negative, at the beginning of the year he got cast in his stable and bashed his head. Due to this he has lost full sight in his one eye. Although he is permently blind, his eye looks no diffrence, he rides etc the same as when he could see out of both eyes. and the vet has assured me it wont get any worse or cause future problems.

I am not selling him because of this, selling it due to going to live away at uni.

Let me know what you think about his value.

He sounds a poppet but I don't think he will have a massive value, max £1000 provided he has no other issues.

oh dear !! sorry but think it will put alot of people off . then youve got to think insurance wise ,
and hes a v big horse.
good luck in re homing him

the insurance dont know he is has lost sight in his one eye, it wasnt a big claim or anything. Vet just diagnoised it and we have carried on as normal since then. I do agree it would but people of thought, but i didnt think i would lost that much money.

Well I think it would greatly depend on what the vet said. A competition home would be put off, but if I was looking for a nice allrounder, and the vet said it was fine and would cause no problems, then personally it wouldn't bother me.

I'd say the fact he's not competed a lot would not count in his favour, as would his age - being over 10 puts a lot of people off. Depending how well schooled he is and how nice a ride I would say anything between £1500 up to £2500 depending what level he schools and jumps at.

Maybe thats naive based on the other opinions on here, but if the eye causes no issues I don't see why it would hugely affect his value for a home wanting a nice allrounder/happy hacker.

cheers sprial. He was compteted showjumping unaffilated with his last owner and cross country schooled, he is good in the school but a bit lazy. He is ace to hack, suitable for a total begineer, but loves to have good gallop with more experinced rider. He turned 11 at the beginning of the month. Ye vet confirmed eye will not change or cause any future problems.

Depending on what someone wants him for and if he is a good allrounder and safe I would say about £2.5k providing he passes a vet.
