hi i have a 16.2 7yr old belgian warmblood and since moving to our new yard he keeps jumping out of the field.

i have tried putting him in with otto, my other horse, and he has plenty of grass so have no idea why he is jumping out.

has anyone got any ideas how to stop him jumping out?

Wheres he jumping into? can he go into that field instead? can you work out why he wants to be in that other field?

Short of working that out, i dont have much advice... a deer fence maybe :o:p

How long has he been there?
My 14.2 pony jumped out of the field over the 5 bar metal gate when I first put him in with my other 2, he did it 3 times in the space of 2 weeks and I was starting to get worried that he would never settle, it only seemed to be out over the gate, rather than the fencing, so we barricaded the gate 8ft high with electric fence posts and tape so he actually couldn't get out. After a month or so he settled and we took the fencing away.
I thought he was doing it because he was being chased by the others, but I saw him do it one day and the others were at the other end of the field! I think it was just a game to him.
Good luck, I know how you must be having sleepless nights!

another option is to put up an electric fence inside the field, (no electric needed, just the fence should do) about 2-3 metres before the actual fence - there's no way he can jump both in one go! or put plastic bags along the fence, tied to the fence posts to try to deter him.

hes jumping into all different fields!! i put him in one field last night and found him in with otto this morning then went up this evening and he was on the public footpath that runs through our fields!
hes been there since sunday but only started jumping out the field yesterday.
it seems where ever i put him he wants to be somewhere else!
he actually jumps the electric fencing, and at my old yard he jumped the wooden fence.
i just don't want him hurting himself or getting in with the horses from the yard behind mine and really at a loss of what to do now

Sounds like he is out a night then? try switching him back so he only goes out in the day and in at night (hoping that there is another horse that stays in too). Mine will not stay out at night either, regardless of grass/company. He is worse because if he can't jump, he will break through seriously heavy duty electric fencing in order to get back to his stable.

luci07. he lives out 24/7 but has access to a stable and hes also jumping out during the day. have tied some bags to the fence now so will just have to wait and see where he is tomorrow morning!!
thanks for everyones help
