For those that have not been following my other thread. We have a situation at our yard in that we have been trying to help a woman who has a substance abuse problem (heroin) , look after her horse.

She has not been able to provide for the horse for some time and the rest of us on the yard have stepped in to try help out both financially and physically.

However it has been over two years of struggle and she is just getting worse and worse and visiting her horse at best every four days, this woman has lost everything , many jobs, home, transport. Each time we thought "ah that may shock her into sorting herself out" however it is getting worse and we finally decided for the sake of the horse we had to get welfare charities involved so we could find her a new home.

We have managed to get the horse signed over to us and we have found a place at a sanctuary, however it is over an hours drive away and we have no transport.

Has anyone managed to get welfare charities to help out with transport, or have any other ideas? I am happy to drive the horse to them if say a charity could put me in touch with a lorry heir company who would do a good deal considering the situation.
We have discussed footing the bill ourselves however we are pretty much drained financially after paying the woman's share of the rent and all the other costs to keep the horse alive.

If anyone has any ideas please shout. We have been fighting for this horse for so long we don't want to fall at the last hurdle, she has a lovely home waiting for her but sadly we can't walk her there.

Unlikely for the charity to contribute since the woman signed it over to you not them. Have you asked transport companies about shared loads? That could reduce the cost, or a plea on a local fb group might help.

I'm pleased this horse has you to help.

If you were down this way, I'd have done it for a few beer token, but Bucks is a bit too far. Someone else out there would probably help out - I'm not the most generous person in the world!

Well done for helping the horse out, shame it didn't come right for the owner too.

Sorry not able to help, but what good news that you have managed to get ownership transferred. When we looked after some rescue youngsters we paid for the charity to transport them to us.

As others have suggested perhaps a transporter could do it as part of a shared load.

Maybe there could be help like there was a few years ago where members offered and the horse was driven a little way then passed onto someone else transport etc

I think it was up north and brought down south by members of H&H all contributing like a parcel - parcel from one member to the next the whole journey.

Whilst I totally appreciate money not easy, I think if you took a week day off work, you could hire a 3.5 tonne lorry for 1/2 day self drive for about £60, at short notice.

And if you each put in £20, and moved horse in next few days, you'll soon save in not having to pay to feed and bed the horse.

Very lost with this - is the horse going to a charity or a sanctuary and will the horse be signed over to them or will you be responsible for the horse? Just make sure you read and re-read the agreement they make. A horse charity sanctuary should take ownership of the horse and put the chip and passport in their name?

Is the sanctuary a decent one? I ask because most of reasonable size have the means to transport and pick up w horse.

Hate to tell you this but Wix is at least 2 hrs if not more

It is about £ 100 to hire a 3.5 ton from windsor horsebox hire

I am about 6 miles from Wycombe and my mother lives in Manningtree which is not far from Wix and by car 30 mins

M25 - Junction 28 up the A 12 to Junction 30 is 2 hrs and that is by car from where the A120 branches off to Wix it is nearer to my mum than Wix so I think you are looking at 2 1/2 hrs.
If it were closer I would have done it being so close to Wycombe but cannot get there and back after morning shift at yard - evening shift as it would be to risky if heavy traffic and I would have some very unhappy livery owners- sorry.

Yes unfortunately it would be 300 miles of driving for me to do it, it would probably not be much cheaper than hiring a box (weekday costs usually 75 ish) when you work out the petrol

Hi all, have spoken to the sanctuary who has found someone who can come collect her and take her there all in for £120. We have got a couple more calls to make in the morning but I think that's a very very good price especially as even if we had a working box we would be paying fuel.

That is a very good price to be honest, I would have offered to take her for diesel money but my lorry is off the road at the moment as I don't tax it through the winter, I hope everything goes well for you and well done for getting her to a safe place.

If £120 is difficult for you and your friends to find, set up a Just Giving page - I'd be happy to make a contribution to help you out. Anything over your costs can go to the charity taking the horse.

I've been around people with addiction issues; I understand what you've been going through.
