My horse is having issues trotting today....it was as if he was finding the road too hot and was very quickly lifting his feet but almost like a fast walk....
He would not actually trot and it was very uncomfortable for him and me...so I hopped off and he seemed to trot ok but again didnt look comfy so I walked him home...3 miles!!
He seems to not be lame in walk, cantered about the field fine and was ok in himself ....the farrier is due on wed and Im wondering if his frog was maybe touching the road and a little uncomfortable...? He is not shod and had no stones or nasties in his feet...I checked...so Its a mystery....
I wondered if it was lami....but he seems to be ok in the field, not standing badly or showing any real obvious signs....
What are peoples views...Can you still ride a horse with lami....can they still walk, canter, gallop and act normally with lami...?

if no shoes then maybe he was findng the road very hot and uncomfortable.
If still lame tomo i would call the vet out.

Lameness on hard surfaces can indicate skeletal problems...or could just be a bit footsore.
I doubt the heat from the road would be to blame.
More details - young, old? Native, TB?

He is a 6yr old quarter horse, never shown signs of lameness before, was a little slow in trot the other day but put this just down to him being a little lazy so left it....

thanks everyone - Ive just been up to the field to check on him and he was trotting about with my older pony and showed no signs of lameness...
Im letting him rest the next couple of days and if still lame on tarmac then will call vet...
thanks for all the advice :0)
