Connie is very accident prone but this one is pretty bad, and we have no idea how she did it!

She's 30, and isn't one for jumping/racing around and the field is pretty much open, definitely wasn't a fence!
It's at her hind leg, going into her belly/side and seems to be half a puncture wound and half a tear. :(

And vibes for an infection free healing would be appreciated! She is well seasoned to the washing of wounds so that isn't a problem luckily :)

Looking a bit sorry for herself after the vet's visit!

 Eww!!!
I hope she has a fast recovery, that looks nasty! No idea what could have caused it though, it looks like the skin has been trapped one way or another and torn.. She's looking well for 30 :D

Dont know about the injury, but she looks rather underweight and has a bad coat. Sorry, but this time of year horses should look in better condition.

We know...she is having one last summer and will be PTS soon...
She is perfectly happy in herself and her coat in that pic is just dried from rain, she was brushed afterwards and it looks better then.

Ouch! I have no idea what could have caused something like that! How strange, poor lass :(

I think she looks good apart from that, FWIW :)

Oh bless her, do hope she heals well that looks really nasty, sorry can't begin to imagine how she did that. What a sweetie - hope she enjoys the sun on her back as long as she can x

Thanks Jess :)

She seems to have everyone stumped lol! She used to be a showjumper, I was joking today she must be leaping all the fences at night when we aren't looking :p

Thanks Pebbles, she is a total sweetheart and I learnt to ride on her (or rather, she taught me to ride lol), she is very special to a lot of people!

Could be I suppose!
They are in the field right beside the house so I would have thought that would have caused a fuss and someone would have woken up but I suppose they would go for the easiest one? :(

hmm.. i would be thinking a nail or maybe a tree?

mine's a total clutz as well - managed to slice through his brushing boots and almost through a tendon

hope she heals quickly

Sorry if this sounds really dense but couldn't make it out properly from the pics!
Is there a strand of barbed wire on the fence in the pics above?

Ouch b_m!! There is a tree but it didn't seem to have any sticky out bits and no wood or anything in her wound.

Yep lml, but the hedge runs along there so she couldn't, well shouldn't be able to get her leg over it, but even then she would have had to back into it and step over it backwards?
And I'm not sure barbed wire could cause such a big hole (not the tearing but it does seem to be a puncture wound too).

Could she have itched on the wooden post and impaled herself onto it sideways, struggled and made the wound alot worse. Have seen a similar sized wound from barbed wire.

Aww bless the old gal hope she gets better soon, could she have rubbed it on the corner of a water trough and lost her balance and ripped it on the corner perhaps? I duno its looks nasty.
