My 4 yr old has been off work slightly lame for a month now..had full lameness work up and legs are good, xrays fine and nerve blocks made no diffrence..Had a thermal image and it was obvious she had heat across her back and pelvis. So i have a mc timoney chiro out two weeks ago and a new saddle made .. and this last few days started riding again..
She desnt feel uncomfortable and is happy to be ridden, ears forward and happy. The muscle on the off side on her rump is very slightly smaller than her near on her side and she is tending to have a slightly more choppy stride almost stiff with her off hind, She tracks up correctly but the off side also looks slghtly weaker.
Anyone got any ideas on what to do next, my instructor said month of walking her out to strenghten the muscles.
Or has anyone had any previous experiences with this kind of thing..Good or bad ..or any advise??
Many thanks guys !

Hi. Just keep going with the slow gradual work to build her up. She is still such a baby so it will be a while bfore she is fully mature. To make sure you are helping her muscle up evenly on both sides make sure you do equal amounts of work on both reins/diagonals. When she is getting stronger, trot up hills etc helps to build muscles. The other thing you can do if your physio allows, is to lunge her in a pessoa. These really do help as long as you know how to fit and use them properly.

i would turn it away for a few weeks, feed of the floor to stretch neck and back and pick up again in feb with 6 weeks walking, introducing trot at week 4 and lunge long and low at about week 7, aiming to being back doing everything by week 10 to 12. The horse is only young, the weather is crap, daylight short and weather and daylight hours makes it hard to be very consistant in building up of work! the horse wont hurt for being left for 6 weeks or so, and will probably come back bigger and stronger for the break, she is still growing and maturing. i wouldnt be in any rush. good luck
