Hey everyone,

I have a 4yo lab, walked him as normal on Tues, everything fine. Left him with my Dad, who noticed no "incidents" during the day, came home from work, poor doggy is very sheepish, tail stuck between his legs, doesn't really want to move. Eating fine, and toilet normal.

Rest him on Weds, Thurs take him to see horses, was still moping round at home, but as soon as he got to the farm ran round like normal. He seems in no pain at all, even when he's sulking. Can't get a reaction from flexing joints etc etc.....

Anyone got any bright ideas?

Thanks xx

Absolutaly none!!! (not helpful but still...)

Maybe try palpating his abdomen and see if he reacts anywhere.... if he seems tender anywhere then that would obviously its something there. If not maybe call your vet as there may be a hormone imbalance, he may have eaten something that has a toxic effect (not lethal, just depresses the system) or something along those lines...... Is he drinking as normal? eating is good, but if he is not drinking then dehydration can also lead to depression etc........

Its also good he is happy to run round at the yard so.....

HOpe this gives u an idea at least..... sorry your puppy is poorly!

Hugs!

Sounds as if he's had a fright in the house. Have no idea what though. If he is running around as normal elsewhere that's the only thing I can suggest.

Are you sure he hasn't eaten something he is not supposed to? like a sock, loaf of bread etc etc It sounds like my sisters lab when she has been raiding something and been naughty - never leaves any eveidence - you only find out when it somes out the other end.....keep your eyes open! Hope he is on the mend soon.

Thats a point, my friends springer ate an item of underwear, and got necrotic guts and had to go into surgery........ this is obviously a worse case scenario as most things will come out the back end......
but just keep your eyes open and if it worsens or doesnt imrpove for a hwile, defo contact vet!

I am interested to read this as I am having similar problems with my 10 yr old Lab. She is running around when out for a walk, chasing the ball, chasing bunnies etc but at home is very lethargic with tail down etc. She is eating, drinking, toilet etc are all normal.
The only thing I can put my finger on is that I am feeling very low myself at the moment (for reasons i won't go into) and I believe she may be picking up on unintended vibes from me. I am really trying to be upbeat but I feel she knows my true feelings and is sympathising with me. Am I crazy to think this?

sometimes dogs can get quite effected by stress thus if something in the house has spooked him or upset him somehow then it could be a reason for being depressed in the house and not elsewhere.... If he is eating and drinking as normal and no vomiting or diarrhoah then intestinal/stomach blockage or upset will be unlikely. If it carries on it is possible to get some stress relievers from the vets... there is pheromone therapy in which a pheromone is released from a plug in or you can spray it around in the house. Also can get like anti-depressant equivilents ??

Daisy and mine dogs are well used to the idea of being around stressed people! hehe

Hope your dogs perk up soon! mine just ignores me now!

Weird. My dog was just like this last week, but I think she had pulled something as she didn't want to jump up into the car or on the bed (she would squeak) and she would trip on the stairs. On her walks she was completely fine.

She seems more herself this week. Perhaps like mine your dog tweaked something (maybe in his back) that he was able to ignore when distracted but not when he had the chance to dwell on it.

Thanks everyone, he was really quiet and down for all of last week, including Saturday, we took him to the races on Sunday with the intention of leaving him in the car (OH was on the gate, so would have been in and out of car all day) but he seemed to make a miraculous recovery and spent the afternoon playing with our other dog. Very odd, but he seems fine now. A tiny bit stiff when he first gets up, but apart from that back to normal.

Brightmount I think he'd done something similar, thankfully he's all happy and bouncy again now!

Thanks for all your advice

Sarah xx
