Any Ideas - Strange Coat

Hello!

I have recently bought a lovely little cobby mare, 5 years old and so far she is an absolute angel.

She also flew through a 5 stage vetting in March.

The only thing is that she has a bit of a strange coat. It has everyone stumped, including the vet. Does anyone have any idea what might be causing the missing patches of hair?

They haven't gotten worse/better in the past few months of owning her. She's not itchy at all and we believe its not an active skin issue, possibly more like scarring.

Thank you! :)

Well, its a talking point. She is very pretty.

Horses do change their coats over time, think of a grey horse going white, or some some change gradually as they get older.

I remember now that as well as ringworm, which was very bad but didn't leave any scars, when he was 4, my horse also had a "skin condition" later on which was little raised spots that didn't seem to do anything. It didn't seem painful or affect him in any way, but it meant that I missed taking him to the Three Counties for a showing class that year and they gradually went away and didn't come back but I've no idea what caused it or what it was.

She’s so sweet looking 😍 and agree with penguin toes, the spots are a lovely feature, like unusual dapples!
She really is - she is just the biggest softie. I'm glad now i've had her for a while and they don't seem to be a problem so it's nice to be able to appreciate them without worrying! :)

Very true, people do ask me all the time if she has appaloosa in her haha :)

That's a shame that you missed out, but it least it didn't cause him any major issues
