I was just wondering if anyone has seen another horse like this.
He is a livery. 30ish - owner can't remember when she had him

He seems very unhappy. He shares my field and TBH I'm getting a bit peeved. He is turned out by farmer at 10am and depending on the weather (ie if it is raining or too hot) he fence walks from 12ish. He fence walks so much in 10 min he is white with lather. Farm hand (if around) gets him in at lunch time. He has made deep ruts in my field 1foot deep. My uncle (farmer) keeps rolling it for me as I am worried that my horse will get injured if she goes down the rut.
I have expressed my concern tp YM (who is heavily preggers and so has other things to worry about) and also owner (who only comes down once in a blue moon and is happy for YM just to turn out, muck out, bring in). The horse seems depressed and sad, and goes into a trance.

Is this a cushins(sp) symtom? Anyone else experienced this?

He is with my horse as owner gets what she wants. If I had a choice he wouldn't be sharing my field. He is worse on his own.

He get bullied by all the other horses. When I get him in at the weekend he just drags me to the stable and stands at the back. He doesn't really graze and not interested in the hay either. I don't think he has any quality of life at the mo.

Yesterday he was white with sweat as the owner said she'd get him in. I got there at 5 afetr work and he was pacing - for god knows how long - field is trashed TBH. She turned up just after me and said she though someone else would get him in as she didn't turn up. He's on DIY and she only lives 5 mins away. I feel sad for the horse but also annoyed that she expects everyoine else to look afetr him.

Its getting me down

Sounds like he is not eating through stress. Florin reacted like that before i got her and when she was moved to stables at the end. I told people to leave her but they went in and her cowering at the back of the stable and did not eat or drink.
How long has he been on the yard? Would it be possible for someone to have a word with the owner? To explain the situation properly and it is a welfare issue allowing the horse to be so stressed it is not eating.
I have seen this sort of thing on many occasions and a change of environment worked wonders. Horses cannot speak i am not happy but have to show it.

Sounds like he would be happier with sole turnout for just an hour in the morning and then maybe an hour in the afternoon - he certainly isn't happy with the current arrangement. He might prefer a little more human contact too, even if it is just some gentle walking and loose schooling if he is up to it. Some horse just don't take to standing in a field and doing nothing.

SF- He has done it since he moved to the yard 3 yrs ago and it got progressively worse. He used to last till about 3 o clock now wants to come in at 12.

MH- I completely agree with turn out idea but owner won't come up and there is not always someone on site all day. Myself and YM have have also had a word re exercise. She had his back done and a new saddle and rode twice then not again. I have offered to come in the school with her or ride out but arrangements are made then owner doesn't turn up. Owner also had a homeopathist come and see him who also said he is depressed and in need of some human attention and grooming etc. She'll do it for a couple of days then doesn't bother with him.

I'm also more concerned as its the show season coming up and my horse will be out of the field at different times. He stresses more when she's not there!

If he was mine am I wasn't interested I'd contact a horse retirement place but he's not and she says she loves him lots!

SF- exactly! She says she has her own probs but if it was me I'd be sooo worried.

We're (me, YM, YO) at end of tether with her really. Poor horsey

We all have our own probs. There must be a very lucky few on here who don't. My list would be massive. The love my horses give me back gets me through it - and haveing a rant on here

Haveing probs unless absolute major as i put on another threat is no excuse, and then its not an excuse as she is comeing out at times she has the opurtunity to ask for help.
Sorry palamino-pony to sound harsh if i do. I do feel for you, but ownrs like that make me mad. If one of our was acting in this way i would do something as they are MY resonsibility.

Wish I could take him. Sounds like he just needs tlc and understanding and regular routine. Poor, poor boy.

Exactly what he needs. We choose to own horses, they do not choose to live with us. Because we make that choice we have a duty of care to these animals. They are not an ornament on a shelf to be dusted occasionaly, some are retired and some people do call them ornaments in fields but in that case thay are living breathing ornaments with need which needs to be provided by those who choose to have them.

Jesus Christ - just DO something. Anything.

At 30ish this horse isn't going to last long. What does it take for someone to act, if you are all fed up of seeing it in a stress? Fetch the poor thing in FGS.

I can't believe this has been going on for YEARS?

my old gelding fence walks around the time when midges are due (suffers badly from sweet itch) I doubt your horse will hurt itself in a rut...........however, I couldnt leave mine to do it for hours!! its sometimes a few minutes when he clocks me arrive!!!

You could always report it, its stressful for the animal.

Perhaps his teeth mean that he can't graze? Does he eat hay in the stable? I wonder whether he would still stress if he had food that he could eat in the field with him?
