We have a springer spaniel who is now 13, he's a good dog and very clean. Normally he sleeps in our bedroom on his own bed and is fine all night.

Last few nights he has woken me up to go outside desperately, night before last he didn't make it in time and messed across the carpet to the door :(

Any ideas on what might be happening here, is something starting to pack up n him maybe?
Nothing has been changed, he's fed in the morning with Skinners and little meat, plenty of access to water all day.

It could well be his age or he has eaten something that has upset his tummy, if he was my dog I would take him to the vets tomorrow for a thorough check up. In the meantime I would try to feed him earlier and do my upmost to make sure he had a poo before you all went to bed.

Has it just been since the hot weather started? Maybe its just upset his tum a little bit. If he was mine I would feed small portions of rice and chicken a couple of times a day and give things a chance to settle down. 1 big meal a day might getting too much for him to process, esp in this weather, I don't think they eat so much when its hot.

I put a fan on across the room from my dogs bed at night atm, he's an oldie too and doesn't cope well with too much heat.

Definitely take to vets for a check up, there could be some underlying infection or similar. I would also feed twice a day rather than once only, a bit easier on the digestion system in an elderly dog! Is it possible to fit a dog flap so he could let himself out as necessary?
