Whilst replacing my batteries on my 7.5t Merc 814 wagon I noticed what looks like a tube/pipe coming out of the wheel. Its a clear plasticky tube, prob about 6 inches long and is on the inside of the passenger side wheel.
It was only given the once over by my mechanic a few days earlier as its a relative new buy for me and he did have me turning the wheel, left and right whilst he checked. He never mentionned this tube and Im now thinking either, its meant to be there or somethings dislodge with my constant turning??

Self confessed DIY disaster hubby wondered if it was some sort of outlet pipe?? Ever the pesimist me, is thinking it should be attached to something  and wonder if its anything to do with brake fluid. I always fear the worse :o Obviously I need to have this looked at but wondered if anyone knew what is was.

Would it be on the inside? You cant see it unless you get under it.
I hope it is something simple :(
Thanks for replying :)

A photo would be helpful...Has someone been bleeding the brakes ? http://www.popularmechanics.com/cm/popularmechanics/images/tu/brake-bleed-a-0407.jpg

I havent a clue tbh, I havent owned it long but the tube looks the same as that but a lot shorter. I will try and take a photo tomorrow.
It wouldnt suprise me if somethings been left there by accident, it wouldnt start and my husband could see a belt hanging loose whilst he was taking the batteries off to charge, it turns out it was an old one that had just been left there! The mechanic confirmed this, when he checked to see if the alternator belts needed adjusting.

Is it on the back or front wheel? If it's the back it's possibly the valve extender for blowing up the inside wheel (assuming it's a twin rear wheel)?
