I've just discovered the world of model horse shows. I have some models from my childhood and I'm wondering if they'd be okay to show in a 'green' model horse photo show.

Does anyone do this? I'd love some more info.

Thanks!

well that's a new one on me :D

How is it judged? Turnout? Behaviour?! :p

(serious question despite the slightly tongue in cheek tone!)

perhaps I should get my parents to dig my old Julip out of their loft. It stands more chance of success than Spider and I do and much easier to plait than a tb with the mane of a bog pony ;) :D :o

But have you ever ridden a plastic horse? I have :p

Reminds me of an incident with some one you really like nearly falling off a plastic horse hehehe :D

Lol, it's probably the same as any other sort of model convention: judged on sculpting, converting, painting and basing, etc. It can take a lot of time and effort to produce a satisfactory model. Some people are able to achieve a great deal of detail and realism in their work, whilst others (me!) are content with tabletop standard. Although I have a few pieces that I did put more effort into than most - my army general for one...
I'd quite like to have a go at making a model of the Hippo from scratch. I may make it my summer project. We have a convention here in October, so I need a few pieces for that.

Arizahn, you mean they're not over the counter julip types, but custom made models? I can see how that would be judged!

dh would that be someone who you used to be at a college with? Or someone else? Too many people I don't like :o

ahhh - so it's more like a craft thing where skilled people create beautiful models, not where people like me get their old childhood toys out the loft, plait their tails and enter them in competitions. :o Your version makes much more sense ;)

Impressed by the artistic talents of others - I never even managed to complete a Blue Peter project as a child so I think I'd be rubbish :D

I remember a complaint on eBay from someone who'd bought a Breyer model horse and was very upset as she thought she'd been bidding on the real thing.

I would have that the giveaway was the fact that in the photo it was clearly shown standing on the seller's lounge windowsill! :D

You can buy kits, pre made models or scratch build. I'm into wargaming, so I mostly use kits and convert them to suit.
But yeah, I guess you could use any preexisting model and paint it up nicely to start with. That's a good place to learn.

I couldn't see myself buying tiny tack...I'd have to make my own!

I'm honeslty surprised the plastic could take her weight

OK career plan B. Make miniature horse tack for models and make a fortune :D

Hehehehe :p I shall send you a link to something on FB.

Not career plan but I'm thinking pony spending money

Hmm...just checked that link and apparently people really do show Julips and Breyers! Wow! Think I'll stick to my current type of models for now.

really?!? Wow, I'm back in the game :D Watch out minature horse showing world, here I come.... ;)

You should give painting and converting a go too! It's fun to come up with realistic looking paint jobs. And you could even use trimmings from real manes and tails to give your models an edge:D
You'd probably need to take the existing model apart to bed those in properly...a sharp craft knife will be needed!
