I am planning on taking my mother for a day out and wanted to watch the horses on the gallops so was wondering if there is a good place to park thats not too far for her to walk and where is good to watch from?

Am pretty sure there are some Newmarket people on here that will reply but as well as the gallops there is the Horseracing Museum and the National Stud. There is also a company which does tours of the gallops/a yard etc.

There is a road out of Newmarket which goes up past the gallops and you can park on the side and have a really good view - I just can't visualise which road it is!

Thanks the stud does tours that start at 11 so there should be plenty of time to see the horses galloping then have a wander around town and get there. I have looked on google maps but its not obvious where we can park thats sensible

I work in Newmarket, are you planning on going to warren/long hill side? If so there is a car park on the left hand side of the road (if youre coming from town) about half way up the hill. Thats the best place to park for warren hill as you just walk straight across the field to the gallop. Long hill is a bit more of a walk but you can quite clearly see the horses from a distance :)

Many thanks :) I just want to take her somewhere she can be relatively close so that she can see them clearly so warren hill will be fine especially as I now know there is parking close by :)

Will do, but with several thousand horses in Newmarket and however many using the gallops you may need to stand on the horses back to stand out :-D

Haha! Im the ginger one who will be riding a big horse, probably kicking him along to try and get home at a reasonable speed!
