Friend and I have organised massive beach ride based at a farm in Burnham Thorpe. We have something like 35 ponies (which means at least 35 children plus accompanying siblings, friends and parents) all descending on a farm over the weekend. Must be mad but it's too late to back out now...

So I'd like some recommendations for
a) friendly horse vet in the area
b) extra friendly farrier in case of lost shoes and
c) any recommendations where to go once we have ridden on the beach

Oh, and I suppose which direction to head for an A&E in case of suspected broken limbs, touch wood it won't happen? Presume the farm will have lots of info when we get there, but recommendations always good to have.

Any other useful info gratefully received!
 
Im in Gt yarmouth have a look and see if thats close enough and Ill get back to you with vet hospital etc.Local woods and bridlepaths

Local Hospital is the Queen Elizabeth at Kings Lynn - but you won't need that I hope

We are along the top coast, not far from Burnham Market and Wells next the Sea, so doubt anyone would want to come that far from your area? Hospital might be of use though (just hoping we won't need to visit one!).

Various non-horsey parents coming too, which is tricky...

Farm have had Pony Clubs before, but they are not horsey themselves as far as I know.
Main worry is that something will get kicked although we are taking miles of electric fencing.
 
We went next to there in that really bad weather week last August. Despite the weather it was huge fun and this is what my Welshie thought of his opportunity for his next go on the beach:

You could try a schooling visit to Burnham Market XC course

Think my ponies will love it too! Had thought of schooling round Burnham Market but got lots of little ones and it looks like they start at 2'6 so might add that in for next time

Tell me more about tides please... I was going to get a tide timetable but someone said because it is so flat the sea doesn't come in that close. Is that incorrect?
 
Living as I do down in Hampshire I don't know how far the tides are coming in at the moment, and they do have to come in quite a way on that stretch at Holkham, but check the tide times with the coastguard.
 
It's Houghton horse trials this weekend, about 20 mins 1/2 hour from you, lots on there. (probably just to watch though, entries are closed!. We are doing Novice Grand Prix)

Ditto the above. My daughters PC (West Norfolk) have their junior and Senior rallies at Suffolk Farm, in Burnham Market- Miles of tracks, x country course - its Fab. Kevin Green comes and does the shoes for that - he is my farrier and is lovely (shame he is already married

Hi Thistle, what a shame entries are closed, we could have entered Connor the non-Cob! What exactly is Novice Grand Prix? Have you got times? I had spotted the event was on and was thinking of going to watch, but I am going up Saturday morning due to party the night before, so probably won't have time to see the xc, maybe go Sunday.

MagicMillBrook, could you pm me a phone number for said gorgeous farrier? Obviously only to be used in an absolute shoeing emergency (also happily married)

Fortunately we have no overly hormonal boy-mad teenagers going so he will be safe from young girls in tight-white jodhs hanging round - that's what my farrier reckons he has to put up with at one yard! Such a tough life. Can't vouch for the mothers though

The Novice grand prix is just like the Hickstead eventers GP but at 95cm, there is an Intermediate one at 115cm and an Open one by invitation. SJ then XC then more SJ course about 1k long.

B going at 8.51 and 11.24 - leaving home 5.30 am!

Sounds fun but will unfortunately be VERY competitive as £250 first prize.

Your weekend away sounds fun.

Remember to enter Connor next year, his sort of class don't have to be a BE member.

Wouldn't fancy taking Connor on the beach unless your brakes are good though, he can get a little excitable!
 
Holkham if fab, best beach in the UK in my opinion ... and horse friendly.

You do need to watch the tide, couple of summers ago 2 riders were rescued when stranded on a sand bank. RNLI led one pony off the bank from a boat and it swam alongside to shore, followed by the other horse. Happy outcome but still need to be careful.

Make sure you keep off the duck boards, that's the people route to the beach, keep on the sandy track.

If you park on Queen Annes drive ... where people generally do to go to the beach, the prices have gone up and now £10 for a lorry.

You'll have a fab time.

I live in Nth Norfolk but further east, make sure I go up there at least once a year.
