Stopping jod seams splitting, ALWAYS come apart at the crotch. I was advised that it could be because they were too tight, so I got some looser ones, then someone said it was because they were too loose, so got some tighter ones, ARGH!

My poor mum who hates watching me sew has fixed about 5 pairs in the last few months :(

Sounds like you haven't drawn them up your legs far enough so that the crotch isn't right at the top so when you get on the material is stretched tight. Make sure you draw them up as far as they can go stretching them on like a pair of tights and then use a belt so they don't slip down. If I wear a pair of jodhs more than one day I can guarantee they go too baggy and drop down (even with a belt) and that makes the crotch drop which has the same effect as if they'd not been pulled up enough. Hope that makes sense but the short reply is they're not made as well as they used to be, they're far too stretchy now.

That totally makes sense as I do spend a good deal of time pulling them up, a belt it is! And my less stretchy mountain horse pair are the pair that haven't gone yet. Clever

Thanks Maefsen :)

Just make sure they're pulled right up and wear them a little more baggy around the upper thigh and tighter knee to ankle - this will stop the fabric from stretching too much during riding... :D
