Everyone is advertising TBs, WBs, Showjumpers, Dressage superstars, potential Eventers... I just want a HW, hairy old plod - for whole family to love and cherish. Any ideas where to look?

have you tried looking on some of the online advertisements - www.horsemart.co.uk and www.thehorseexchange.com?

Also read the adverts closely - as I think that some of these horses advertised as SJ/ dressage superstars are quite often what would have been advertised a few years ago as a family pony type, but obviously if they mark them up as SJ / dressage horses then they can advertise them for more money and get more people interested

Well it sounds like me, but I guess you mean a horse

google Lazy Plods and they also have bomb proof cobs too. Think they are based in Lincolnshire.
Keep looking, hope you find one soon

Haven't heard great things about bombproof and lazy cobs but look on horsequest.co.uk - they have different sections for cobs and 'family friends'.

I bought my horse last July and she was advertised in the local pet food shop. She didn't read 'safe old cob' as such, but my advice is to look everywhere eg tack shops, on-line at adtrader, adhorse, horsemart etc, local papers like free-ads. I looked at a fair few that were advertised as schoolmasters and they really weren't what they were advertised as. My mare was advertised more of a pony club 14.2 mare for a teenager to have fun on. She is in fact a 15hh 15year old school mistress who has been there and done it. Get an idea of what you want size and age wise, and then look at as many as you can because what sounds good on paper may not be what you want and visa versa. I always look fairly locally as well so I can make two or three visits. She is my third horse after two very big mistakes (thats why I took my time this time). Good luck

Safecobs give their horses a star rating to indicate how "easy" they are which you might find helpful. They aren't all plods by any means and be prepared for a price tag of £3k - £4k upwards! A true, sound, safe, bombroof plod is worth his weight in gold and genuine ones very rarely come on the market. Also beware of thinking a hairy 10 year old coloured MUST be a safe plod - my good friend bought an 8yr old 15.2 coloured that she hoped would be like the military drum horses. She forgot that they only get like that with years and years of careful training! Happy hunting!
