Any one else thinking of cutting hay?

I would like a few blades of grass for the ponies to graze it is rapidly turning brown and bare no rain for a month and only a couple of showers overnight in April it looks like august in the paddocks and they are threatening hosepipe bans

MM as long as you want, you want to look at how much it is going to seed, how green it is in the bottom ect. If it has turn colour and it is waving in the breeze if most of it has headed it will not grow much more so you can cut it. It is individual to the field and the year and most of all to the weather.

Thank you. Much appreciated. Had a walk round today and it's grown noticeably in the last few days. Maybe if we get rain at the end of the week it'll look more hopeful :)

Yes, lots of fields already cut around here. The hay field next door to mine that is always cut late is about waist high atm.

Although there are a lot of fields here that people usually take a second cut off, but not sure they will manage that this year....maybe some late haylage...
