Any one else's dogs already a jibbering wreck?

God I'm so lucky!! Both my horses watch fireworks, admittedly they've never been closer than say half a mile, and seem to like them!! But one of them will also stand happily within 100yds of a clay pigeon shoot!!! New puppy sat in garden watching the funny colours in the sky cocking his little head from side to side!!! Again, not too close tho. Would like to try taking him a little closer to some next time and see if he's ok. Desensitisation where possible is probably the best thing you can do for them! It's such a shame when animals are terrified and we can't reassure them. Hugs for all the frightened animals tonight!
 
This is Otto's first year with fireworks in close proximity, last night he was quite unsettled by them despite being a Gundog and more than used to gunshot.
Tonight he is fast asleep on the sofa, completely unfazed by the display going on next door. Quickest desensitising ever! :D

I think some dogs are just bothered by fireworks and nothing much will help, my Mum's IWS was a working Gundog but would hide in the darkest corner he could find during fireworks!
 
My poor JRT hates fireworks. He has calming tablets and then we just have to ignore him and let him find somewhere to settle till its over.
He's been alot better so far this year though, when he was younger he used to be panting, shaking and scratching at anything within reach to hide and then would get so worked up he'd be physically sick, whereas now he'll shake a bit and pant a bit when they first start but he doesn't get himself into such a state thankfully, even when its the plebs a couple of doors down letting off massive bangers.
Its a horrible thing to have to witness him so petrified, hate fireworks with a passion.
 
My collie is totally unconcerned, he came out in the garden to great me when I came home from work at 7, just as the garden up the street was 'mid cake' and gave the bangs not a second thought. He did bark at a couple when he was let out a bit later, but not scared, more just interested. My last dog used to bark to go out, he used to think it was fun to chase round the garden!!
 
My two were utterly terrified (terrier-fied :P) so I whacked up the volume on the TV and closed all the blinds. We have one nice middle room (the dogs room anyway) which has no windows, so that was quite quiet for them - but they still knew it was going on :( Left them overnight with Radio 3, and the lights on :) they were ok in the morning.
