Has anyone had a marble put in their mare? If so how much difference has it made and has competing become easier? Have you had any problems?

Thanks in advance :):)

I knew of one, she was a b**ch before and saintly afterwards and yes she was able to compete after. It was only local level as that's what the rider wanted to do.

My mare had one put in. At first it worked really well but they can expel them without you knowing, which is what happened in my case. This was a few years ago when it wasn't very common and so techniques have probably improved. Sadly I lost my beautiful mare so I didn't follow it up once we found out it was gone as she had an incurable disease.

What is a marble?

It's a marble placed into a mare to help with seasons.

I've done some research which all look good, but don't know anyone who's tried it.

I'm seeing how my mare is this year without any riggy geldings around her. She was a right grump and not worth riding her for the first 3 or 4 days of her season last year.

If she's the same this year, I'll have a marble put in.

Em had one fitted a couple of years ago due to ovary problems causing huge hormonal issues. it work really well, she went from a jeykll an hyde type to a permanatly chilled out lass. it stopped working after 14 months but after having a course of hormonal injections she's been back to her saintly self for over a year now. :)

I had one fitted to my mare last spring but you must be aware that the window for inserting the marble so it wont be automatically 'spat out' is small. Ideally you need to know exactly what stage of 'in season' your mare is at and have the vet out to insert it at short notice at the right point. Too soon or too late and chances are the marble wont be held. This happened to my mare, even though we thought we'd caught it right by guessing at what stage of 'in season' she was. Ideally, the vet inserting the marble will scan first, so they can see exactly at what stage the uterous is at before going ahead with the procedure. I wasted £96 by not having this done.

am waiting for my mare to be scanned and thn will be having a go. Dont like giving regumate for too long and poor mare is so miserable so often. Has anybody had implants put in ? my vet doesnt think that they are legal for use in this country

I had one put into my mare as she used to get quite painful during her seasons. It worked really well until she lost it a few months later in the field.

I got the vet to check that it had indeed come out, although I thought it was pretty obvious after she bucked me off :o:o

Taaz had one in as she was diagnosed with persitant anovulatory follicles causing her quite a bit of pain. At one time the follicle was soooo large and persistant vet thought it was a tumour.

Her seasons did reduce for a few years but recently been coming into season more so I dont know if she has maybe lost it :( ....... might get vet to check.
