So basically, I will be ringing the vet tomorrow, but i have just found this on my girl and wandered if anyone has ever seen this before or experienced it?

i can touch it and poke it and she's not bothered at all - she reacts to pain very obviously.. so its not painful. I'm worried its a cyst or a sarcoid? or on the other end of the scale, i suppose it could just be a fly bite?

My lad had a lump almost identical to that behind his girth area. Turned out to be a fly bite which just needed popping as it was filled with pus :S
 
thanks for your replies... i really hope its a fly bite as i dont like the sound of the other idea..! luckily she can still wear her bridle without it rubbing..! As its not hurting her to touch it, i was going to give it a few days and monitor it, see if it gets any bigger or small! :confused:
 
looks like a cyst to me. I have a dark brown/black 22 year old gelding who has one on his neck and one on his shoulder. He's had them for 3 years now and they don't bother him at all. For peace of mind, ask your vet.
 
My horse has exactly the same thing at the moment!!!!
Last year he had one the same time as his injections so I got the vet to check it out, vet said only worry if it gets bigger. He thought it was some type of nodular, I have the exact long name written down somewhere!

So it eventually went down after a few weeks.. now its back again! I think its a fly bite personally, I wouldn't worry too much if I was you unless it gets bigger or hurts your horse.
 
Update; or though not a vet, just had the dentist out and out of curiosity asked her if she'd seen it before, she had a good look, poke and prod and said she thinks its properly a fly bite or perhaps something has gone in and it's swollen. She said it's not a sarcoid - had lots of experience with sarcoids and it doesn't resemble one at all. Giving it a week and monotoring it twice daily.. Hopefully it'll just go down! :-)
 
Is the lump still the same size as it was before?

As said previously, my horse had the same thing last year and when I last post. Came up about a week ago and has now shrunk to the size of a pea...

I hope the same happens to your mares :D
 
Probably just a fly bite but do keep an eye on it. A few years ago my horse had a similar lump on his thigh. Vet wasn't too concerned about it but wanted me to let them know if it got bigger. It did get a little bigger so they biopsies it. Unfortunately it turned out to be an aggressive cancerous tumour which had to be surgically removed. Very sadly he had a dreadful reaction to the operation and had to be pts.

Maybe to get a larger number of views and then more help?! I for one, use the new lounge a lot, and it would appear that there is a lot more activity, therefore more chances of getting advice/experiences.

Dont think theres much point in you getting on your high horse (if you'll excuse the pun) over something so small.
 
Leviathan In answer to your post- I posted it NL as I wanted to get as many opinions and views on it. I stated in the title "also in veterinary" to avoid comments similar to yours, some people on this forum (including myself until recently) only ever go onto NL so posting in just veterinary may not have got as many replies which would equal to me getting not as much information about the lump.

Thank you for your reply on my other thread, you obviously use all parts of this forum. The lump actually has gone down and she is fine.

I had not noticed

all i new was that i thought it was the thread i had answered to , then i couldn't see my reply so i thought TFC had removed it so went through my history to see if it had and it hadn't so got confused .:confused:

There was no need to say I am on my high horse a simple explanation would suffice. Some of us are still learning are way about the forum.

If I am not totally observant to see the sub title ,maybe it is because my mare is acute laminitis and my friends horse i has grass sickness. And they are on my mind full time .

All that needed to be said was * you must have missed the bit about also in vet * and i want more replies . Did not think u needed backing up :rolleyes: I do not use all parts of the forum only 4 areas .

lastly from the small picture of your horse it looks a lovely colour.
