I have a yearling who really doesn't want to have his main pulled, I also want to show him so, I need a finished article that could be plated, He has a very soft main he's 3/4 tb, also how do you use it? & can any one post a picture of a finished mane?

I only use my rake for her tail which works really well

try a solo comb for the mane, they tend to be fairly easy to use!

I've used one on the mane, and it doesn't leave it in a plaitable state afterwards

You can see in my signature (2nd photo from left) the spikiness that it leaves behind. The photo was taken about 4 months after raking, and a year on I'm still having problems with the mane.

Stick to pulling, or even scissors if it's a thin mane.

Yes, but only to thin. I flip the mane to the wrong side, rake then flip back and then will use a set of clipper blades (before they go off to be sharpened!) to get the length off.

Yep I do as my horses main is as thick as 3 manes on a normal horse. I push over to wrong side then thin and have no probs plaiting. He wont let me pull it and solo comb not enough. I also use it on his tail. They are fab

I used a dog stripping comb for the length and it makes it look pulled.

Thank You! looks like im getting a solo come, I have a pet hate about non pulled mains!!, I will persevere with pulling as he grows up, but I have only had him a few months so, don't want to start off on the wrong foot with him. And he's doing so well with every thing else, grooming, feet, leading & backing up.

with the Solo come I guess you just chop off the bit you would normally pull out?
