Sorry to hijack the thread, but do they have much of an off switch @druid? I'd never even heard of them til I hate work got one of yours and I'm a bit smitten.

Sofa surfers at home, rather like having mini greyhounds all they do is sleep, preferably under a blanket or in front of a stove...or both! There's ocassional wrestling with other dogs or the cat but they're very chill at home. Our next litter is very tentatively planned for 2024. If you'd like to meet them I'll let you know when we are showing up North next.

That would be fab I'd love to meet them! Thank you. As much as I love my girl off switch will definitely be a bigger consideration with our next dog if there is one!

I have to admit this thread has also made me consider a Manchester Terrier, they weren't a breed I had known much about previously but they look and sound really lovely dogs. I think I'd dismissed them previously because I'd thought they were much smaller.

You're not alone! I also thought they were smaller and potentially quite nippy and it's sounding like I was very wrong. Would definitely like to meet one now!

Loki at 7mo is about 7kg, he is as tall as my small cocker spaniel but very lanky!

They had whippet bred into them yonks ago. They are complete heat seekers and snuggle bunnies. Whilst they love a play and a zoom they also curl themselves up under a blanket and sleep for England!

The ones I have met haven’t been nippy. Which doesn’t mean it’s not possible, but that can be said for most breeds. They are terriers so can be predisposed to vocal but it’s all mouth and no trousers in my experience.

This is the most popular MT pose ….

It was Onyx that got OHs attention and weve met lots since. Ive only met one I wasn't keen on but I'm almost certain that's a handler issue given how little training they had received.

They're very much on our wish list but we need to get back down to 2 before we look again.

I won't lie - I have one who is a bite first ask questions later type when at home if a stranger was to enter without one of us in charge of the situation. She was however poorly socialised as a pup and we didn't get her until she was 6 months old. She is perfectly manageable in that visitors ignore her, then when she has stopped gobbing off throw her a bonio and she's happy they're now friends and often moves in for a cuddle and pat. Ruled by her stomach. Away from home she's a different dog altogether, happy to interact with anyone.

The others are happy go lucky little characters known by name in the local dog friendly cafes and pet stores.

Huge development since this morning…I’ve found a Manchester Terrier litter with one bitch unexpectedly re-available due to a change in circumstances. So of course I have jumped at the chance! I’m a huge believer in fate.
Really can’t believe my luck, I now know how rare a litter is, never mind one with a free pup. Meant to be.

Need a name now!

Oh my!!! I love the fact that in the space of a couple of days you have swayed to a MT.

But how on earth have you lucked out so quick?!!!! Fate for sure. So few litters available.

Funny thing is that I actually wanted a MT before getting my last dog over 12 years ago, but there were none about. So that was completely reignited by this thread - I think it’s because you never see them that they’d just gone off my radar.

But yes I totally believe in fate and this was totally meant to be. I’m so excited!! They’re 2 weeks old now 💕💕

Ask ihatework about fate...my Kennel name turned out to be very dear to her for personal reasons and she had no idea what it was until well after the pups were born and Loki chosen!

What about Seren for a name, short for Serendipity but also translating to star in Welsh?

Ok so they’d fail on the long legs but Lancashire Heelers would tick the rest of your list 😀

Unless you find one with longer legs. Mum's oldest Heeler Timmy has longer legs - his brother does Level 6 agility if my memory serves me right.

My two are definitely miniature in stature - but big on the personality front

Yes Pickle is Grade 6 and has longer legs for a heeler but don’t think he would fit the description of long legs per se. Think OPs choice of a MT is as close as you can get to a heeler 😝

Ahhhh Patterdale I had somehow missed your replies about going for a MT and finding a litter - what a stroke of luck! *potters off to FB for puppy pics* - congratulations on your new addition to the family 😊
