okay my puppy aged 4 months, is still trying to chase the cars, it is obviously fear he will sometimes go behind me and then will sometimes bark at it, distraction just doesnt work, he has his mind set on what he want to do, he is a blue border collie and it seems that he might be trying to herd them maybe?
if we sit him he tenses up and lowers himself to the stalk position, he wont take a treat and his focus is on the car.
is it the best thing to do is to make him wait and offer him the treat, we have no further problems with him for his age he is extremly obedient, like all blue merle he is a very clever little so and so, dispite when a car goes by he is obedient and will walk to heel.
so any ideas thankyou?

Gaynor Bailey resently wrote something on this (she is a top dog judge & trainer) She said if you can get some friends that the dog does not know go on a private or very quite road. Get them to drive past let the dog chase, as soon as it chases they stop the car, get out with plastic bags, and make a right racket at the dog waving the bags & shouting nastly at it.
She said this had worked a treat.
I have not done this though myself as luckily not neede to.

Good luck with how ever you sort it out.

Hi,

I had this with a couple of my Border Collies - but they grew out of it......just need to keep walking & ignore it if you can.

dont let him hide behind you.
Also, dogs chase cars because they think that them chasing the car makes it quiet, ask a friend to drive past you, if he chases it, stop the car, hopefully this will make him see that chasing it doesnt make it leave.
Also, dogs chase cars through boredom, so make sure you keep him stimulated. Do you exercise him alot? what breed is he?
I have had this problem with border collies because they need a lot of mental stimulation. Hope this helps.
