Any owners out there who do not feed hard feed at all?

Only winter and when worked ie hacked 2-3 hours every other day(so didnt get it every day). Speedibeet, scoop pony nuts and hi fibre lite. But not a lot ie half trug full...more token. But it was only when weather was ie bitterly cold. Otherwise in summer a large mug of non heat pony nuts. Cob and very good doer.

As a stud owner, I have quite a large number of horses and treat each one's needs differently. All the good doers are on good quality haylage only and look fantastic. Mares with foals and other youngstock get a hard feed and the oldies get a hard feed mixed with lots of semi-sloppy Fast Fibre. Some of the stallions get a hard feed, others don't. Two of the stallions getting hard feed have poorer topline than the others who are not getting hard feed. Even the horses competing (BSJA) are looking great on haylage this winter and have had no hard feed. So, my advice would be to feed according to need and level of work.

Most of mine have hard feed, but the welsh cob does not! She literally has half a handful a day as is fed a supplement, but would not even have that otherwise. Love the cheap to keep welsh cob! Our nf mare, by contrast, has loads, a stubbs scoop twice daily of happy hoof, plus half of one of nuts! And is slightly under weight if anything! She also hovers hay like its going out of fashion, where as we Have to limit the welsh's intake!
