I have an 8 month old Patterdale bitch, with a rough/long coat and would be eternally grateful for any advice on grooming her. Atm she just gets brushed but she is looking a bit untidy/badly knitted. My friend's OH has said to hand strip her, but I don't know how to do that and wouldn't like to try it. I did ask in the groomers at our local Pets at Home but they didn't seem too sure what should be done with her. Any help please?

A quick plucking motion ,start behind the ears and work down the back blending in sides and legs later. You may need a tidy with thinning scissors on the neck and chest. Don`t forget to leave this excellent nesting material lying around for the birds to use. A shorter route is to run a number seven F clipper blade all over the dog ..going in the same direction as the coat please (opposite way to horses!)

I have a Wire haired Fox terrier X, i took him to a groomers to be hand stripped just before Christmas. You can do it yourself but they were much quicker and neater!! And at £25 about 4x a year i don't mind!
East Kent, i maybe wrong but was told that whilst alot of people do clip, it can ruin their coats and take a good few years to get back to a state that can be hand stripped properly.
Bobs best friend is a Patterdale, she is lovely!

Clipping is far from ideal, but is a quick fix for the pet dog, must admit some of mine get a quick clip unless they are very fluffy and loose coated.
