I currently have a Nikon D50 and various zoom lenses which I'm getting sick of carrying around to various events (all equestrian) but I do like taking pictures and having memories of the day.

What I really want is a pocket camera, thats easy to carry but still takes as near quality pictures as an SLR. There are so many of them out there can anyone recommend one that takes good action shots?

Sadly, the smaller more compact cameras do still have some shutter lag and therefore you would find it hard to get great action shots from them. I would recommend you consider one of the bridge cameras such as the fuji s9600. None of them will quite get you the quality of the Nikon.

If you ask in the Soapbox - there are a number of HHOers who use that or a similar model and are very happy with it. I used to use the s602 which is one of the first in that line and loved it.

Fuji Finepix S5800. I had the older version which was the S5600 and also used the S5700 which is it's predecessor and it really was a fabulous little camera. It's a good step between a point-and-click and SLR, but is very reasonably priced- it's on amazon for £107. In my opinion you can't get any better camera for that price. Here's a few of the photos I took with it... I absolutley loved that camera!! It's got a great 10x optical zoom too. I've recommended this camera to so many people and those who have bought it have been thrilled with it.
