I always do a blanket as he now too old for a hunter but still sweats up quite a bit. Think its a middle of the road clip. ( plus I love clipping!

Surely you first need to decide how much work your horse does as to how much coat he need removing. Also how long is he turned out for etc. How warm is he normally. If you give him a full clip you need serious rugs for when it gets cold. I tend to do either a trace clip or a blanket on mine as he is ridden most mornings before work and then harder at the weekend. I have only started doing Blanket clips since getting rugs with necks as he is out all day. I really don't like full clips as I do a lot of hacking and I feel he would just get cold - would have to use an exercise sheet.

My neighbours Highland just gets a bib clip - that way she rarely even needs to rug him.

Agree with others though, its much more important to get the clip correct for the amount of work and turnout your horse has.

Gucci_B Please can you make your sig smaller, and especially shorter. It is affecting every thead you post on at the mo so that it's hard to read. Thank you!

I use the same clip as Gentle_Warrior - excellent for the older horse or those that are out a lot as they can turn their bums to the wind and still have full protection. I do sometimes leave the top of the neck on too as I do not use neck covers - Chancer's mane is too precious.

I then at the end of January take the whole lot off down to the knee - they have feather so they have nice coats for the summer and showing.

Hi,

YO clipped Tyler last Saturday, Just went for a trace clip as he isn't in heavy work, plus I dont want to have to lay on the rugs just now. Excuse the blurry photo. It was a very quick lunge after work so he want looking his best and wasn't really paying particular attention to camera
