Hi :)
I came across your board today and joined it. I figure I should introduce myself a bit :P

I live in sweden (so please be patient with my writing, or else I'll be too nervous to try and write in english and then you all have to read swedish ;P). I have two wonderful horses; 3 year old Solon who I'll start riding now this spring. I've been sitting on him a bit but not much more. He's a sweetheart. And Crow who I ride most. Started him under saddle, ended up with a shattered wrist and when it was healed I started again (with some help from my instructor). It was almost 3 years ago. Phew, time fly!

I'm mostly riding on the trails but every once in a while we work a bit in the arena too (or on a field sometimes since I don't have any arena). I'm not claiming to ride any special dicipline, I just pick a little bit of each. My main instructor is inspired from spanish dressage but does jumping and regular dressage too, and I ride western a few times as well. It has worked out well, I've found it all has it's advantages. Western helped me put a nice stop on Crow, he can get a little rushy so it's great to be able to stop for seat only.

Not sure if that's much more to tell.. I'm me and myself and some people find me a bit.. special, I guess. I blame my artist side :P I paint too. Mostly horses and mostly on the computer.

Solon: I bought him as a yearling, he was badly starved. And he's gaited, an icelandic :)

Welcome- your horses are beautiful! How tall is your Icelandic? Very pretty :)

There's a place for you here... you can sit by me! But don't tell my horse- he's a bit possessive! ;)

I wouldn't worry about your English it looks pretty good to me, my command of foreign languages is shocking!

Both your horses are beautiful, Solon looks wonderful now that he's recovered, well done for your hard work! What is Crow's breeding - He looks like part thoroughbred to me?

Beautiful horses can't wait to hear more about them, what breed is Crow? He is stunning but I do loveyou icelandic! I do love the ponies, a lot more fun :D

I had hoped not to tell what beed Crow is since I'm a bit tired of constantly hearing how that breed is no good for riding and meeting prejudices.. but since you ask (and I guess it would seem weird to try and keep it a secret) he's a swedish trotter :) Got him as a 5 years old, he was trained for but not started on the racing track. :3 Nobody could ride him because appearantly he's crazy (lol!) and they didn't race him either.. my personal guess is that he scared them or something. I dunno, he's a real sweetheart. :) Aaaand he's gaited too. Even worse than riding a trotter; gaiting it.. xD But what's nicer on a trail than a flatwalk or a rack, right :P

He wasn't that pretty when I got him either..

I don't know Solons exact height.. but I'm 1.60 if that helps? :P I think he's about 135cm..

It was interesting to see your photos, I can see how much work you have put in to help your horses health.

Also nice to see 'different' horses being ridden, if you enjoy them and are happy then don't worry what other people say to you. That's their loss if they don't want to try something a bit different!!

Thanks :) I enjoy them, it's not that. It's just that annoying toe or added ''for a trotter'' at the end of a compliment (''that's good, for a trotter'') and such that gets a bit tiresome. As if he wasn't really a horse, but something less. :)

Question; Do you use ''pace'' as a name for walk, trot, tölt and canter? I mean are they ''paces''? In US forums they say ''gait''? Or maybe both works?

It's kinda confusing, really.. trot walk and canter all beeing gaits, but if it's a ''ait'' it's usually a lateral fourbeat one; like rack, stepping pace, flying pace, tölt, foxtrot, flatwalk or runwalk...

But you normally use ''pace'' instead of ''gait''?

Here's a video.. it's the first time I try western with him and frankly I and he was too busy with everything else to focus on getting the right gait (trot or rack)... It starts really boring.. but the weird headnodding walk is a flatwalk, and the other gait that's not a trot is some kind of rack/saddle rack.. tending to be a bit too lateral at times, but.. :3 It's since november I think. you coud fast-forward untill 4 or so minutes.

Gosh your boys are beautiful! I went to Sweden last year for my grandmothers funeral. It made me wish we could live there in the summer, take horse & dog over and just go out all day!

Trotting is pretty popular over there isn't it? My best friend has a French Trotter and she competes her in eventing successfully so pah what other people think eh!
