I am hoping to bring home my toy poodle puppy in about four weeks, and was wondering if anybody with experience of the breed wanted to give me any advice/tell me what to expect? Already have two lovely, lazy whippets, but I suspect the new puppy is going to be a completely different experience.

Also, the breeder has told me I can pick him up at six weeks. Now, the whippets came home at 8 weeks and 10 weeks, and I'm a bit worried that 6 is too young to be leaving mum. Am I just being paranoid?

Generally pups leave at 8 weeks but I've known some to leave at 6 weeks. Presumably it will be vaccinated before you get it?

Don't have first hand experience of poodles but have heard they're very bright and can be quite dominant. I think black and white handling and consistency is key.

I am the very proud owner of a beautiful black standard poodle bitch. She is six years old now and she is the best dog I have ever owned. She is my dog of a life time. Very very clever, affectionate and funny. She adores everyone in the family and I have never heard her growl and she has never shown her teeth to anyone ever. As a groomer I don't mind that her coat is high to maintain.

Hope you have many happy years together.

Why six weeks as that is very young for a small breed puppy? Eight to ten weeks is normal and at six weeks I would worry about such a small puppy with adult whippets.
Start as you mean to go on and do get the puppy used to being combed through on a table, just a few minutes at a time, from day one. The breeder should give a FFT trim before you get the puppy and you can find a groomer to give the next semi (Face feet & tail) as soon as the jabs are complete unless you are going to self trim.
Did you check the parents health test results? Poodles are great dogs but he will think he is bigger than the whippets.
