Jester has been on one pracend tablet a day since last Thursday, all seems to be going ok, appetite still there and seems happy.
Every time I Google Cushings it just brings up horror stories of depression, ataxia, loss of appetite, lethargy etc :( think I have made myself so paranoid I'm looking out for every little subtle sign! A friend came to ride him yesterday as sadly her horse has retired due to injury and I offered her mine, I warned her he can spook and nap occasionally but expected him to be fine on this occasion as I followed on foot with his field companion.
Jester was really naughty, did a lot of planting and running backwards he hasn't been like that for ages and I hope he is just testing a new rider and it's not a side effect :( he had a day off today but I'm a little cautious to ride tomorrow now :(

our anglo arab has been on 1 prascend a day since diagnosed with cushings in March .I have noticed no side effects .
He had no cushings symptoms other than persistant recurrant abcesses.
He is full of beans and back to his old self .
His reading was 260 before starting prascend 6 weeks after starting his reading was 31.
At the moment its all good.
Try not to worry the vet tells me to just treat him as normal now.

I have a 22 year old pony who has been on Prascend/pergolide for 10 years, a gradually increasing dose until she is now on 2.5 tablets a day , and she is only 11.2 hh. She has never shown any side effects, and although I do still have to manage her very carefully with regard to weight, feed etc I very much doubt she would still be with me if the Cushings wasn't being managed by prascend.

Mine has been on it 3 months now and has displayed no side effects. I waited for the depression to kick in but it hasn't done. She is 11.2 and on one per day. Will get her retested next month.

mine has been on prascend for 4 years and is now on 4 tablets a day. she was a bit picky over her food at the beginning but has been fine ever since and never suffered from the side effects that you have mentioned... I manage her carefully but am not prepared to keep her in the stable so there is always a risk of laminitis, quality not quantity of life is important...good luck with yours..

Side effects are likely to too much prascend in the beginning, if that happens, you usuallt lower the dose then upp it again, sounds like you don't have that problem. It works wonders for most horses/ponies, bringing them back to their old selves...have a look at thelaminitissite, join the fb page on there as they can help you with any questions plus there are a lot of files explaining everything you could want to know about cushings/lami/ems.

We have had two ponies on it for the past two years. Both 26 years old and looking really well :) The only change is they aren't quite as enthusiastic about some feeds as they were before but as both a good weight so it isn't a problem.

Thank you all, he certainly doesn't have a problem with his appetite and was bucking and cantering around the track this morning waiting for me to move the posts a smidge! Had a lovely relaxed hack out with a friend this morning so all good so far :)

My mare has been on pracend for a few months now and she has shown no side effects, has a really good appetite and no depression, unfortunately she came down with laminitis in may and pracend was her only hope of recovery so for her it was a life line.

Lol, not a side effect exactly but a lot of horses look and feel "10 years younger" on it, had a couple of owners stop using it because their sensible old childs riding pony turned back into the JA jumping pony of it's youth or serial escape artist.
