any really waterproof lite turnouts?

I was pretty impressed with my Shires Stormbreaker

it was much more waterproof than I expected for a 600d rug.

Rhino's, Rambo's and Bucas' (NOT the Sunshower) are the best really but if they don't fit, it's no good. :( I think that Bucas does do a large neck version but I don't know if it comes in the Smartex Rain. Go for as high a denier as you can find in a style that fits your horse.
 
Have you tried the Amigo ones? I have the rain sheets for mine and they work and fit well. However, they may fit in a similar way to the rhino/rambos being from the same company. Not sure if Premier Equine do any but my sister was very pleased with their heavy weight TO and that seems quite roomy on her horse.
 
My 14.2 super chunky cob takes a 6'9 in most rugs (derby house amigo, Rambo etc) but weatherbeeta fit like a glove on him and never slips back.
If u get one from ur local tack shop and try it on over another rug, they'll let u take it back if it doesn't fit.
I've found that the adjustable chest straps are better than those surcingle type ones as they seem to fit better.
 
I use the amigo turnouts for my heavyweight cob and they fit great, get the 1200D ones as they are much more waterproof
 
I have an old fashioned warmblood. Wide chest, huge shoulders and high withers. The best fitting rugs are Mark Todd and Fal. The MT only last a few seasons before the waterproofing gives up. His lightweight Fal is a "bulldog", not cheap, but just keeps going and going.

Tagg seem to have taken over the Falpro brand so they are hopefully for sale again.
 
I got some new amigo 600D lites off ebay recently and they have withstood heavy showers recently. Fit TB and WB well. Lightweight enough to leave on and breathable. Ebay was heyfarmsaddleryltd - I;m not connected to them, I just was nervous as was such a good price so wasn't sure of quality but certainly seem to be ligit :) I rang horseware factory (local to me) and they were quoting €79/each and I got them for £25/each :)
 
Fal rugs. Expensive but the only ones that are still waterproof after years of abuse by my boy - and they're the best fit for his huge shoulders as well. Amigos one size bigger were good at first but now as waterproof as a tea bag after about 3 years.
 
my shires (highlander), masta and amigo in the past have all leaked, the only real lightweight (i.e no fill) that has been actually waterproof as opposed to shower proof is the JHL one I have. The tempest (from shires) is quite waterproof but gets condensation on the underside easily, whereas the jhl is net lined so breathable and doesn't get the condensation.

agree fals are really good, wasn't aware they did a no fill turnout, i have the 40g chieftain turnout which is long lasting and a fab rug never had an issue with waterproof'ness'.
 
Ahh yes missed the "really light" bit. 40g is the lightest they do. Having said that, I was told that the reason for this is that the lining and the outer layer need to be kept apart so that the rug is breathable and waterproof (this makes sense when you think of keeping the fly sheet and inner layer of a tent apart to prevent it leaking) and this is the only reason the 40g of filling is there. I let him get wet in the summer, but he has worn it on very warm spring days and he's never sweaty when I take it off so I assume this must be true!
