I need a very lightweight summer rain proof rug to keep Baggins mud free and dry on those days it's raining but I want to ride.

Must be very lightweight so he doesn't get hot !! Any recommendations?

Thanks all

Rambo summer series (brilliant but spendy), or one of the various waterproof fly rugs. They keep the back and neck clean and dry, and don't cook the horse.

The summer series comes with a detachable neck cover. My mare after a wet night out! She was pretty dry under it. There's a detachable liner with it as well that just covers the back under the waterproof strip.

ETA the navy blue sides are mesh.

Waterproof fly rug would fit the bill - Maxima Equestrian do a nice one at a reasonable price if you are on a budget.

One of the owners at mine has got a very nice Swish showerproof-topped fly/summer turnout rug for hers.

Swish are ideal rugs for cobby types (tho' hers is a TB having said that), they are nice and roomy.

Premier Equine also have been good in the past but don't know what theirs are like now as not bought theirs for a few years. They do a showerproof rug I believe?

Ooh thanks all, will get browsing tonight. I have a fly rug but it's not waterproof.

Bit of "essential" shopping especially as we are going to Exmoor weekend after next and it looks potentially damp 😁

Another waterproof fly rug vote.
I have a PE which I like but more recently picked up a Rambo summer series cheap second hand.

Thanks everyone I've ordered a waterproof fly rug (shires tempest) doubt I will use it much so didn't want to spend loads. I actually have a 6ft 6 fly rug still in its bag, unused if anyone is interested ...bought in sale last year....a shires ..£25 if anyone needs one !!
