any recommendations for stable/field shelter manufacturers?

We have got "National Stables" mobile fieldshelters and they are really good. We also know people who have had their stables and they are pleased too.
Would recommend them.

I would recommend Redmire as they are well made and a good qualitly thickness of timber ... cannot remember the thickness, however others are thinner .... basically you get what you pay for

I'm surprised that the Redmire ones are thicker, we ordered stable doors for our brick built stables and they had to be sent back as they were too flimsy and wouldn't have lasted very long at all. (ETA the contractors building our stables ordered them so they may have been a budget line or something?)

Not sure where you're based but we used james-gd, if you google he has a website. We have had field shelters from other people but his is by far the most solid and has stood up to being moved around which the others haven't. We will need some more next year and I will definately go back to him.

Depends how much money you want to spend ? I bought 2 larchlap stables from Ebay for £150, they dismantled them and putting back up was easy if enough hands available... 5 meta posts and seccond hand timber struts from local wood yard sorted it. I did have to hire 7.5 ton lorry also, but in all it probably cost £350 for really decent 2 stables which we reassembled in a day and half ! Better than 2 k odd for purpose built, I now have two good sized second hand stables for a fraction of the cost !

We brought a redmire mobile field shelter 3 years ago. The first winter went out hunting came back and it was upside down in the field next door! got it all fixed had it turned with its back to the prevailing wind(rather than the side) and we got up there one day the next winter and it was inside the outdoor menage! . Must say if your yard is fairly open air i wouldnt recomend them. also the travelers nicked our gates and the repacements are crazyilyy priced!!!

if wind is an issue talk to Saltire stables as they are very used to putting up buildings in places like ours in the Cairngorms and they take the issue of wind seriously!

Our stables from them have sailed through first 2 winters despite there being over 150 barns down in our area due to huge snow load, and we get massive gales regularly.

They do operate in England too.

Hello again..wondered if you have a mobile or fixed shelter as I would need a mobile unit? Thanks for the assist, weather has been horrible!

The Mobile Field Shelter Co in West Sussex sell storm anchor kits which drill a long way into the ground to secure mobile shelters in windy areas. It might be worth chatting to them about the kits.

We bought mobile stables from prime stables earlier in the year. Couldn't be more pleased with them. They were happy to configure the layout to our requirements and were very flexible on price. Will definitely use again for field shelters and stables

Mine are fixed ( a mini barn) but several friends have their field shelters and they def do moveable 'temp' ones as well as fixed.

Also they do ones with 'hit and miss' line of boarding in the top strip of the back wall, this lets a lot of the gales power dissipate and is very effective at stopping the 'shelter flying through air' issue. I havent seen anyone else who does this in a standard range.

Having said that, if you are as exposed as us, you might want to do what we do with sheep/geese arcs and have guy ropes from the corners of the shelter out to angle iron lengths banged into the ground at 45 degress as giant tent pegs - this works very very well and is also 'temporary' as the irons can be removed and the shelter moved.

i recommend them too - built the stables at our old house - liked them so much that we used them again at the new place
not the cheapest - but you get what you pay for - good thickness of timber, properly built, good customer service etc etc
some of the cheaper places round here build things that look like matchstick stables - v worrying!

Totally agree that you get what you pay for. The company we bought from have customers you can visit' which is useful to see how they weather, function etc. prime also have a video showing how they can be towed. This seems to be pretty simple, although not had to move ours yet.

Saltire send people to see our mini barn (didnt actually agree to it, just occasionally started to get phone calls from people of thinking of putting one up). It is the best way to assess I think, if you can.
