Hi - I have a friesian who can be a little too laid back when trotting up in the showring and he loses that extravagant high knee action - when ridden I can wake him up most of the time, but on the ground he will step sideways if I give him a flick with a stick and give me a mortified look!

I've seen friesians inspected and they have trained runners and someone chasing them with a big stick shaking a tin of stones!

Not sure I can get away with that so any tips will be really helpful! :D

Practice at home ,you could try keeping him in a day or two before show and not getting him off box until his class so he is freash and happy to trot up .its common practice with some pros to keep them in for weeks which i cannot agree with but a day or two wont hurt .
