Our 'pet' crow has reappeared after being AWOL for 18 months... he has really sore 'shoulders' (where his flight feathers begin), bald patches, white bone (?) showing. he's attacking them with his beak after flying every time, flying seems to make them sore.
If I take him to the vet will they give him painkillers, and/or treatment, or will they think I'm utterly barking? (probably)
Have tried smearing vaseline and various other things, sparingly, on them, but it's not really helping...
Thanks for any helpful responses.

well yes obviously they will think you are quite mad... :p
but they will treat, sure its not some kind of feather mite issue?

other option is to call your vet and ask for phone number of local wildlife rescue, they will deal with wildlife more than your average vet anyway and might be more useful

that's a good idea. i've got mite powder etc but can't see any (red mites etc, not sure about the tiny ones), i've checked his feathers really carefully but they look clear. don't want to upset him too much by dusting him all over if he doesn't need it, maybe i'm being a wuss.
thanks, was going to call vet 1st thing anyway but that's a very good idea.

Even if they think you are nuts, it isn't really their concern so long as you pitch up like a normal and pay your bill!! Agree with trying a wildlife rescue though, even with our pet cockatiel the small animal vets are astonishingly useless!!
