I have a problem with rug sizes!!

Both my mares are...well were a 5'9. I've had them for nearly 4 years and they've both either bulked out or my rugs have shrunk slightly.

A 5'9 rug fits too tightly around the chest, although the buckles do up, the velcro comes apart, revealing their chests and is a tad short. A size 6' rug fits superb in length, but is slightly too loose around their chests, although its better fitted than a 5'9. I use weethabeeta rugs and i can't help but find their rugs all abit too tight across the front. They rip easily too!

Can anyone suggest a brand of rugs that will suit a more broad chested horse?

I always put a bib on both my mares to avoid any rubbing, but i'm not entially comfortable with the horses having too loose or too tight rugs on. I feel mean!! Although they don't seem to bothered.

Fal were the only ones that fitted my wide WB and super wide Highland pony, loads of space round the neck and they never rubbed. This was back in the day before premier equine though so I can't really comment on the competition!

I'll have to try Mark Todd and Premier equine then....see how they fit.

Most my rugs are weethabeeta...but seeing as my horse's chests have bulked out a bit over the years, these rugs are no longer suitable.

Thanks for the help
