My husband and I are starting to think about starting a family and are discussing potential solutions for the horse.

Selling him is NOT an option but I would consider someone riding him as much as they wanted. Problem is he is 18, has Degenerative joint disease, but is 100% sound, can be hacked, jumped, dressage etc. He is a beautiful horse that is competing up to medium level dressage, and I would be happy for sharer to compete on him. He is definitely not a novice ride and can be sharp so would be looking for someone with experience. Do you think anyone would want to take on a horse like this? What sort of money is acceptable to ask. It would be unlimited riding in a beautiful yard, with full XC course, great hacking and 20x60m menage.

That sounds absolutely brilliant!! Where abouts are you based? I know a couple of people that would bite your hand off to have that opportunity

Thank you. He is my baby and I have done everything for him for 11 years so will be hard to take a back seat. But he is too talented to turn away for 9 months, so need to do what is best for him.

I would say as much as the money side of things, look for someone reliable who is "good" with your horse. I dont pay alot at all for my share (£50 a month, which I know is peanuts) but I really help the lady out as she has 2 and just doesnt get the time to ride in the winter. If you try and gain too much financially you may find some really good sharers "get away" as they just cant afford it!

Your horse sounds lovely though, and Im sure you'll find someone really great!

I want someone who is going to really want to share him and enjoy him. I dont want him to be seen as just a horse to ride. He is a very sensitive horse and takes a while to gain his trust. But is the most soppiest horse I have ever met. Everyone who meets him falls in love with him. He has his quirks but then dont they all. I am just seeing what options are open to me at the moment, thanks for all your advice. x
