So my 5yr old lab is on a new drug (P something?) for her arthritis as metacam wasn't stopping her limping. Think the metacam was slightly better at preventing it, but really sad as poor pup is hobbling about. Can there be any more done? I.e if I I book her at the vets will they be able to to anything or should I just put her back on the metacam and work on shedding the weight (she is a bit fat, not hugely but a bit) as this should help.

NZ Green Lipped Mussels - feed raw.

Metacam and Previcox, along with many other arthritic drugs CAN have disastrous side-effects. I don't want to scare anyone, merely pointing out that there can be side-effects from any using any type of NSAID's.

Cartrophen or acupuncture might be worth a go...Weight down is eally good and moderate exercise.
We also use Synoquin long term.
Best of luck for your pup

i give our lab glucosamine and a dribble of cod liver oil in her food daily, she is also kept very slightly underweight (fit really) and has limited time playing fetch sessions (was stressing her elbow joint when skidding to a halt for toy)
she now doesnt need the metacam
her coat also shiney
good luck

Find a hydrotherapy swimming pool for dogs. Works well for arthritus in dogs, as it does for humans. It will also help to get the weight down.
