I have an 8yo black lab, generally well behaved, fairly quiet but can get a bit boisterous when playing with other dogs of a similar size. Tends to ignore smaller dogs. He chases the odd pheasant/ squirrel when out but always comes back as soon as he's called.

Some day i'd like to move in with my OH, probably in the next few years. He has a mini lop bunny. How likely is it that we would all be able to live together and the dog and the rabbit to be fine together. Obviously they would never be left unattended together but I don't like the thought of having to keep them shut away and taking it in turns to let them out as they are both very sociable animals and love to sit and chill with us while we watch tv etc.

What is the best way to introduce them?

I would advise putting the rabbit in a cage, dog on lead. Give the dog a kong stuffed with treats a good space away from the rabbit. Take it slowly and hopefully your dog will get bored by the rabbit. Just do the introductions slowly from a distance. Shortening the distance as the dog settles....be firm with your lab so as to not spook the rabbit. My children had a rabbit who came inside and it worked with my dogs. Obviously take it carefully as your OH doesn't want his bunny hurt. ;-) our rabbit, Alice, treated the dogs with disdain.
