Any thoughts on Friesians?

Have had to retire my tb mare

but looking on the bright side I will be able to start saving for a youngster. Have ALWAYS wanted a friesian, so anybody have any experience/views/opinions of them? I think it will be quite a change from a tb but hopefully in a positive way!
 
My friend owns one - he is the most incredible mover. He is VERY strong willed so it has taken her a long time to convince him that they both want the same thing. but now his brain is onboard he's unbelievable. Strong willed in a stuborn way tho - never does anything nasty. SUCH a lovely trot! He can even jump (some people don't think friesians can but he'll jump 2ft9 happily. Never going to be a showjumper but fine for fun rides and the odd pop here and there.

Basically I'm a big fan but you have to brace yourself for a horse which will have its own mind - quite a change from the average TB.
 
Fantastic horses with lovely temps. Laid back but very bright. You need to watch where you buy from as there's some real rubbish out there. I prefer the old fashioned chunkier type myself but there's more and more of the lighter 'sports' types around these days. Just watch out for the long backed ones with weak quarters. I did well at dressage with mine and a bit of jumping until he had to be put down at 9 after colic ops.
 
I have always loved them but, sadly, out of my price range. A friend has bought one though and she is the sweetest thing going, not soppy, but kind, responsive and willing to learn.
 
There are two mares down my yard owned by the yard owner they are absolutely stunning. I am going to ride her youngster 4yr old at the weekend i let you know how i get on.
I love them if i bought another horse i would get one they are fantastic movers real eye catchers.

I have a 2yo Friesian x tb and he is a VERY intelligent horse! He has a lovely but wilful nature, it will be very interesting to see how he comes along. He is quite solid and bold and has the most beautiful fairytale head. I got him at 10mths as a wild untouched baby and as soon as we brought him home he wanted to be with us. A couple of pics of him last April

I gave up on my dream of getting a pure bred due to the price. But 6 weeks ago purchased a 3/4 Friesan, 1/8 TB, 1/8 Trakhener 16 month old colt.
He is wonderful. Very bold and very bright. I too find he has a very strong will and doesn't like his routine changed.
He's on box rest having seriously injured himself after just 2 weeks, but is behaving like a gent 99% time, which I think is exceptional for such a young horse.
The stud where he came from was great, they had his mam, and grandad and dad is kept at daughters farm. Grandad is so well behaved they let him (still a working stallion) out in a paddock next to the mares in season and he was impecably behave, came to call and led away no problems, which I think is a great testimony to the breed and also to the breeders.
I perhaps have been a little foolish as I've never had a ride on a friesian and have been told it is not to everyone's taste due to the high head carriage????
 
Moneypit, he's lovely!

Am going to have to do a fair bit of saving here...then again I'm happy to buy a weanling or yearling if it's possible! The last I saw, 4-6 yr olds seem to be going for around 4 grand so hoping there are some babies available next year. There don't seem to be many purebreds about though.

Can I be cheeky and ask any Friesian owners what they paid?
