Ive seen one advertised but its a long way from me so thought i'd get a few thoughts/opinions before I investigate further!

Its on older one (k reg) but has low milage and looks pretty tidy - are they generally fairly reliable vehicles? anything I should look out for?

thanks!

I have one, and LOVE it!! Very good box, all through winter it wasn't started, and started first time with no problems at all when we needed to use it last month.

Fairly cheap boxes, so I would make sure its not too pricey (we paid £1500 for a J reg (1991) box about 6 months ago! Admitedly it is bright pink... but had just had new ramp, and reinforced floors)

My VW LT35 was my first ever box and was a great way to start off. Loved it as not too expensive too run and got me used to driving bigger vehicles. 5 boxes later I now have a 26 foot long 7.5 tonner!!

The one ive seen is 5.5k but has 42k mile on the clock and is a K reg - does this sound like a lot? Its one of the fully coachbuilt ones, two forward facing with grooms area at the front.

My mechanic told me not to buy one as they are know for engine trouble & not to buy a transit due to rot. On his advice I bought an iveco turbo daily and in 6 years it hasn't missed a beat.

Does sound like a lot for the age, and very low mileage, couls it have been clocked? Make sure you do the vehicle check on it though, HTI or w/e it is!

Does it have full service history?

I've got a VW LT35 and I love mine, never had any problems with it (touch wood) and it starts every times! Never heard anyone with a bad comment about them and I was reccomended to but this type of box, but obviously you get good ones and bad ones, and so far I've been lucky (touches wood again!), best if you can take a mechanic with you?
Mines an F reg and has done 119k miles, I think you can look up on the DVLA previous MOT's/Plates to see if the mileage is consistent, think you need the chassis number though?!

If this is the LT for sale in Glos, I have viewed it.

It is nice and tidy, the ramp is new and a slightly different colour from the rest of it.

It is quite small, only suitable for two ponies or one horse IMO.

As it is very tidy, it is possible that the miles are genuine, but the seller could not guarantee this.

I think it is over priced, the least they would take was £5250, and that was without a new MOT, cam belt, warranty and delivery.

Think I'll stick to a trailer and keep my Disco.

we sold our 4x4 and trailer to buy an lt 35...its been fab! just been out in it with 2horses for 2hours without any problems! lots of living space and the horses are happy in it! we paid £4000 for ours and its an Mreg, not sure about the millage though.

Hi marmalade yes i think it must be the same one! (fortwo horseboxes or whatever they are callled)

hmm sounds a bit dissapointing then that it was so small, I have a 16.1 ISH so i need a bit of room for her! (the ad made it out to be suitable for a big horse.....)

The search continues i guess!

Travel Two.

Size wise, it has the headroom (7'6), but I really think you would struggle to get two horses in it, it really is quite dinky. This wouldn't have been a problem for me 'cause I only have ponies, I just thought it was over priced, if it had been 4k I probably would have bought it.

I think they are great little boxes but realistically if you are planning for more than 1 horse, forget it. I used to use one to transport youngsters about and once we put two large hunters to go up the road (5 miles main road). Well it seemed like the longest journey ever as it really did struggle. That was about 15 years ago, you'd get stopped for it nowadays!

Things to look out for - steering wobble and dodgy gearboxes where you have to hope to get a gear (also came across this in a newish iveco 6 ton box). Still, I would love to have one again.
