Any thoughts on why he suddenly won't load?

This might sound like silly question but how to tie up without the partition? Do you tie to the drivers side and them let them adjust? We have some issues with exciting the trailer and the horse rushing off which might be due to him trying to turn and catching himself. Also is it easy to move the full length bars out of the way when unloading?

I would always cross tie, give them enough play that they can arrange themselves how they want but not too much that they can try and turn around.

Even when I had a partition I never tied to it. Without one yes I cross tie and tie a hay net in the middle.
Assuming you have a front unload why is the horse turning? I can’t picture it.
And yes the full length bars I just used to undo the ramp side end and lay that forwards.

Turn is maybe the wrong word. He's traveling on the right (drivers side) which is the same side as the front ramp. So unloading you need to bend/turn slightly right to make it down the ramp square. If unloading calmly - not a problem. If rushing/panicking then I think he's catching himself when he turns right slightly. He has also jumped and cleared the ramp before which is impressive but disconcerting. He used to be fine but has started almost throwing himself out (both horse and trailer being serviced this weekend).

I'm thinking without the partition it's easier to go squarely down the ramp as you have more room.

He's tied up on the right with a hay net (bailing twine to metal ring - not tying to partition - bad wording on my part), just mentally trying to figure out how he would be tied up without the partition and with full bars.

Sorry for hijacking thread OP.

Sorry if it’s been said but do you need the partition in? Every horse I ever had preferred standing herringbone and would do so without the partition.

That was exactly what I was going to say , one of mine after travelling well suddenly seemed to be leaning on the partition and then wouldn’t load , she was fine in a lorry so I took the partition out and she immediately walked straight in and travelled herringbone, never had another problem with her . Dex looks like he fills the space so maybe he can’t splay his legs out enough to feel comfortable … it’s obviously good to check everything but he also could just be having a teenage testing of you. Shame they can’t speak .. sounds like you are doing everything right so good luck and let us know how it goes
